Sydney Saturday 12th report

G'day guys,
We we had our first charter yesterday for the season and headed out & got some liveys then headed for the 12 mile. After speaking to another boat that was wider we new we were in for some average conditions during the morning. We pulled some lures & headed wide looking for the temperature break that was on the charts & found it in about 450 fathoms. We set a trail & spent over 4 hours cubing & jigging till dark for zero's. The water temperature is still a bit warm but the fish can't be far away.
Cheers

Albacore, Blue Shark

Headed out yesterday, lots of healthy bonito to be found everywhere outside Botany Heads. Also found a big patch of bait so got into some slimies as well.

From there we steamed out to Botany wide FAD where we managed to pick up two Dollies.

After the FAD we punched it out to Browns and put out a spread in hope of some fin.. trolled wide of browns until we were about 35 miles out, pulled the lures in and started the trail.

We had been cubing for 4 1/2 hours when we jagged a good albacore on the jig, came in just on 12kg's.. not long after that we had a shark out the back that we watched cruise away from the boat into the sunset.. thought it had lost interest and moved on however it was back at the boat in a matter of seconds and we were hooked up.

Took about an hour to get it boat side where it made a fine mess of the paint job, chewed on the transom ladder and then bit down on the rear rail where it got lock jaw and stayed there all the way home.

Not the best pics of the shark, might put up a link to the go pro footage - pretty funny episode.

Weekend Yellowfin Report

Well the fishing is slow at the moment with the only yellowfin off Sydney that we heard off was caught by PHGFC boat Spicey Sardine who came across a good patch of 50+kg fish while cubing and landed one.
With Reef Magic out of the water at the moment getting her yearly service & maintainence i had a chance to head to my home town Narooma for a few days off.
While the reports off Sydney were slow it's only a matter of time as the fishing down south is just hotting up. Local Narooma longliner Fisco had been catching good size fish out on the 1000 fathom line but the weather had kept all the smaller boats inside over the last couple of weeks. But this weekend had great conditions with a lot of boats getting out and into the fish on Saturday, many of the fish were 20kg models with a few bigger fish being lost.
The currents are looking great for fish off Sydney very soon & if the weather is good this weekend I expect things to start picking up. Hopefully we can get Reef Magic back in the water by Wednesday & get her back in action.
We have plenty of days available so if your keen give me a call.

Cheers

Trolling 22/04

Left port Botany ramp in the fog, put the lures out just before the shelf, pulled up at Browns for a couple of quick drops, then kept trolling. Nice temp break 2 miles east of browns23.9 to 24.6. Nothing in it for us. Went east to 1000fa line, south for a couple of hours, back in west towards southern canyons, back up towards Browns, then west to the shelf. 0-0-0 for the day. Warm 24.5 water inside the shelf, did anyone fish this patch? We had a 11.5hr day for our zeros, and the current at browns was screaming, we were drifting at 2.5kn into a light southerly breeze. That's fishin!

Yellowfin Charters off Sydney - NOW TAKING BOOKINGS

Hi all,

As we are now back in Sydney we are going to start taking bookings for charters for yellowfin off Sydney.
As you guys who fished with us last year know we had a great time off Sydney catching plenty of yellowfin, albacore & mako's. With our biggest yellowfin hitting 70kg & biggest albacore going 14kg & biggest mako at 260kg.
We will again be doing big days with the mid morning to mid afternoon doing some trolling & jigging and the afternoon into the dark spent cubing, jigging & popping for tuna.
Our prices are the same as last year at $1750 per day with all gear & lunch with soft drinks provided. We normally say 5 - 7 are good numbers on board with plenty for everyone to do. Its a great day out at $350 per person based on 5 anglers or $250 per person based on 7 anglers.
If anyone is keen give me a call on 0407113349 and we can book you a day out.

Cheers

Port Stephens slowing down..

Since i dont even have a tinnie in Sydney anymore... And waiting for the new boat... I raced up to the Bay last week to drag the big boat out...
After a great run through Feb and March it seems wide of the Bay is slowing down a bit only had one up last week when we have been averaging a lot more... Might have to get the boat down off Sydney as the reports of blues is very encouraging

**REEF MAGIC** back in Sydney

Well what a great season we had in Port Stephens where we managed at least 1 marlin on every charter as well as big dollies a 400kg tiger shark on mono and releasing our biggest blue to date at well over 300kg as well as running second in the Billfish Shootout for the biggest marlin just missing out on the $10k.
Mike, Dave & myself just spent 4 days fishing in NZ where we caught snapper on soft plastics to 10kg as well as sight casting 20kg kings with soft plastics & poppers... what a site that is watching the big kings fight for the popper!
The reports off Sydney are great with our club tournament on this weekend - we aren't fishing as we are replacing the outriggers after a yacht snapped one while we were moored at Port but we have had some encouraging reports today. There were only a few stripes caught and about 5 or so blues with Gale Force releasing an estimated 220kg blue. The best news I had was what I predicted with 10 or so 50kg yellowfin being caught !!!!!!!! That water looks perfect for those early season big barrels & it's great to see a few caught on the toll.... If you haven't already get yourselves some Scent Blazer lures as they will be a big hit this season.
Anyway we are now taking bookings for charters off Sydney so if your keen give me a call on 0407113349.

Cheers
