After much deliberation and thought about the uses I require a boat for, I've decided on a Formosa tomahawk! I have been on one but I would like to know from experience by other raiders......... beno41079 Posted July 15, 2016 Share Posted July 15, 2016 I have a 580 tomahawk centre cab which is my second formosa iv had and soon be getting a new one they are great to fish out of . The ride is as good of a ride as you can get i think and loves the following sea and iv got a 140hp suzuki with a full tank of fuel and 3 fat blokes and gear it will do 33 knots only things i don't like is not enough storage and the height of the wind screen I'm 177cm and i seem to be looking through the top frame when standing up driving Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Thommo Posted July 16, 2016 Share Posted July 16, 2016 G'day Scratchie, I have had a 6.2 Formosa Tomahawk (half cab) fitted with a 150 Yamaha 4 stroke for the past 5 year and find it pretty good, plenty of fishing room and stable at rest. I did have one problem a couple of years after purchase with the under floor fuel lines disintegrating and in a sealed floor boat was a bit interesting to say the least. I use a mobile marine mechanic who was able to sort out the problem, to be fair to the Formosa manufacturers they came to the party with a lot of my out of pocket expenses after I called them and sent a few photos of the issues. something to check on! Have fished out of the 580 center cab several times , if your crew have good manners its no problem, if not inconvenience and arguments might ensue traversing between cabin seats and rear deck. Pretty useless protection from wind and rain imo. Be worth you getting down to the Syd boat show next week for a gander. Hopefully they will have a display model with the side entry opposed to the transom. recurve Posted July 23, 2016 Share Posted July 23, 2016 Look at the Surtees/Bar Crusher Boats. Higher price tag but they are a better fit out IMO. Great storage and an excellent ride. They are narrower than the Formosa so very comfy underway and have a ballast hull to compensate when at rest. Build qualityis unreal, on the Surtees models. They also offer a crazy amount of factory accessories and fit out options. They will be at the show. Really good boats. They have Centre consoles as well. I like the full hard tops myself. So so much warmer and good in summer for protection against the sun and dry winds. I like fishing center consoles when inshore and in estuaries but having a hardtop is a worthy sacrifice when offshore. Next time I buy a new Alloy boat I am going to insist on having a VibraStop Pad installed between the motor and boat. They make a huge difference. amkr Posted July 23, 2016 Share Posted July 23, 2016 (edited) I've been casually browsing for 6.5m alloy boats.Best boat i've seen has been the Extreme boats from NZ - hefty price tag but they are seriously decked out. A mate of mine is going to buy a trident in the next 12 months too, they aren't too bad feature wise. Surtees look awesome, im just not sure on that beam. It may make the deck feel a bit crowded? I'd test drive EVERY good boat in the range, bar crusher, Quintrex, Formosa, stabicraft you name it. For that much money I imagine the dealers will even put you onto some fish during the test run!
