harold
Next week it is our sons 13th birthday and we want to buy him a good fishing rod and reel for general use around the Hawkesbury from our boat. Would welcome any recommendations. Our budget is $600 for both but that could be extended. Thanks for any advice you could offer.

Scratchie
I'd look at a terez with a sustain reel. Beautiful light tapered rods and will handle anything the hawkesbo can throw at it!!! Happy birthday Jeremy! Cheers scratchie!!!

zielinskiluke246
I would recommend the diawa sol or shimano stradic ci4+ reels. They are excellent little reels and wont let you down Sent from my iPod touch using Tapatalk

onearmedfisho
no offense but I don't think a 13 year old needs or would appreciate a $600 + set up! Save your money... Id be going for 2 cheaper set ups

harold
Thank you Donna. I appreciate 'one armed' response. Jeremy will keep this reel and rod for a very long time. Having done a lot of research I am torn between the Ci4 and the Sustain. I know that Mr Scratchie knows his stuff pretty well so I will probably go with his recommendation. I am off to the shop tomorrow. Had 2 dental implants yesterday afternoon, what a fun exercise that has been. Stay safey everyone.
Guest 4myson
Wish Jeremy a BIG HAPPY BIRTHDAY from me & Anthony. And Harold Spend Away , from what i saw He's A Keen Fisho & would appreciate the gift .... In my opinion Your better off spending a bit more on good gear that will last him a while than going cheap & constantly upgrading . I bought my son Anthony a 1000FB STELLA & an Ugly Stick when he turned 1 for his Birthday (NEVER TOO YOUNG) , He just turned 9 in may & the reel is going as good as the day i bought it . Even though he has plenty of other rods & reels that's His Favourite setup & his caught everything from Kings to Jews on it .... Guest
Happy Birthday Jeremy and let Dad buy the best as they will last you a very long time and when that big one comes along you will have the gear to stop you adversary. Regards Stew. Daiwa Certate are great IMHO and are tuff as nails with a very nice drag
