night_rider
Hi Raiders, Hoping to call on your knowledge and your 2c. I popped into a LFS whilst out grabbing some new cichlid food for my hungry ones at home.... I told the shoppo I was considering a new beach rod for an eggbeater reel I just picked up. I'm shown a Shakespeare Lazertip 12" on special at $65... I'm told it's at that price it's 50%... Being a fan of supporting the local guys and the fact it was pretty cheap I jumped at it without hesitation or doing any reading.. I said $60 and it was mine. Today I did a little reading at it would appear the the rod is worth less than what I paid for it... not to mention "50% off"... Found it between $39-$50...with no claims of massive discounts.. Feeling a bit ripped off here... Thoughts? Is this rod any good? If so I will just keep it and use it... happy to convince myself it'll be better than what I currently already.. OR do I take it back and tell the guy I'd like my money back considering it's been sold under false pretenses... Thanks in advance M.

thefisherman6784
That's bad mate My dad wouldn't be to happy That's why I always look for a rod, choose it, look at different websites and see if I'm paying the right price and how good it is Hope it's a good rod or that would be a waist of money Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
RAYp
Hi Mark, Take it back and tell the Dick Head you want your money back or you will shove it up him where the sun don't shine.
night_rider
Thanks for the replies guys. Has anyone used this rod before? Anything else sub $100 worth buying? Would be targeting salmon, maybe toothy critters and a jew if the stars align.. It is actually against Australian consumer law to engage in misleading and deceptive conduct. Pretty sure marking something up to make it appear to be on sale fits in that category and could use as grounds for a refund.. its not really the price thats an issue but the fact this shops done what they did that ticks me.. Ryder
You got more like 5% off the prices I've seen. $69 Typo error? I wouldn't go in guns blazing, it never pays to burn your bridges at the local. But I would let them know.

Yah agreed on the guns blazing, that won't get me anywhere. he defenitely said 50% and was marked as such... he's not my local but ive had a similar experience there before . . . Should of just made the trip to Narrabeen, the guys there are always helpful and don't push crap.

I might just take it back and pop over to bcf n spend twice the money on something that is actually discounted for a better rod... I bought my first beach rod from kmart about 4 months ago and the jarvis walker handled a 1.2m shark out of the surf on my first beach night session..so I'm not concerned about this rod not handling salmon or something bigger cause surely it will... The JW just doesn't have a very good casting action... Ive already bought a nice Okuma for it a few weeks back. Thanks again guys. Appreciate the input! Scratchie
My tip when purchasing new gear especially if I'm told it's a bargain, is to quickly google it on my iPhone before making a purchase. It can usually give you a quick reference and help you make an informed decision. Cheers scratchie!!!

big Neil
Take it back for two reasons. You've been given misleading (if not deceptive) information and the product is no better than your JW rod. Smart arses like this need to understand that the customer is important to any business. You are within your rights to get a refund. Neil.
night_rider
Thanks Neil. I popped in last week to try and return it and they had shut even earlier than their current shortened trading hours... looking forward to getting a new one and wetting a line next weekend! Way too much time wasted on this stupid rod.
night_rider
Hey guys, Just thought I'd update you all on the rod dilemma. I spoke to the supplier and confirmed the retail was around $60 for it, I also advised them of the deceptive conduct their retailer was demonstrating. After 4 trips back to the shop, being told you need to speak to the owner he'll be in on..... and everything else you can imagine, I decided to give up and just exchange it. It wasn't worth my time or energy trying to dispute it. I spoke to the owner over the phone and told him straight he told me nothing but lies about the rod and it was pretty poor form. I swapped it over for a 12' Ugly Stik. I was then told it was going to cost me as that was more expensive.. I gave them the $10 and left the shop. The poor sales guy was pretty embarassed as he could see I'd be lied to from start to finish. All good. Lesson learnt. Happy with my new Ugly Stik. $70 seems a good price and the thing is so light! night_rider
Cheers Shakeel. Life's lessons.. Sometimes they bite you, other times they make you laugh and smile. The Ugly Stik I ended up with controlled the legal Kingie I caught last week like it was a 30cm bream so it's all good.
