Boat Insurance

Hi Raiders,

Up for boat insurance again. Tempted to just renew without checking but I figure that there must be some insurance experience out there in the Raider community.

Anyone been shopping around and found a better/cheaper insurer.

Thanks in advance.

Cheers

Jim

Same same, NRMA put their prices up (around 33% !!!) and dropped both the level and what they cover, called them to see if they could be competitive and "unfortunately due to a policy pricing restructure" they were unable to help unless i moved my car and home insurance over.

Club marine price was excellent and the items covered suited me to a T so i went with them after much research.

I go with club marine. even if they were a bit dearer i still would. They offer alot of benefits like covering equipment, Fishing gear, Electronics, Water skis if in a lockable compartment. along with heaps of other benefits. My brother was insured with another well known company when his 12 month old boat got stollen and he lost out a fair bit and had a few dramas.

I went with the NRMA as a bundled deal for 2 cars and the boat. Appeared competitive at the time but think that I will change to Club Marine next year.

Anyone have any experience of how NRMA and Club Marine are in terms of dealing with claims?

NRMA does the same thing. The theory is that your motor or trailer may be stolen or damaged without loss to the boat and vice versa, I guess.... and people change their motors and trailers a bit. The trailer is a separate registered vehicle after all.

My package with NRMA has been unbeatable, price-wise. Having all policies with the one insurer does help. 3 cars in the family means 6 policies, home contents is another 2, boat insurance, landlord insurance for our investment property (and that was $400 less then anyone else!) and then roadside membership counts as 1 policy, so that's 11 policies, plus a loyalty discount for 25+ years with them. Even without my wife's staff discount I haven't found a better price. We usually choose a moderate excess to keep the premium down. I have never had to make a claim on boat insurance but I cannot fault them when I've had to claim on car insurance or home contents. They have moved very quickly. The last time, someone backed out out of their driveway into my car on a Saturday, I took it to a preferred repairer on the Monday morning for a bumper replacement and spray, they arranged a cab home and cab pick-up the next day when it was ready. Absolutely no angst on our part. The repairer sends photos online and it's quickly assessed. Even when we have been at fault they have been good.

I have heard good reports of Club Marine, too.
