Getting a car from Tassie to NSW

Yes I guess ferry is the way to go, but I forgot to mention more about the rego.

Would it be a matter of unregistering the car in Tassie and getting a pass to drive it to sydney?

How much is a truck form Melb to Sydney roughly? Anyone know?

I almost bought a boat from there not long ago, the ferry bookings were quite well booked for vehicles with trailers meaning if I bought the boat and took my 4x4 over to tow it back I would have to wait for almost 3 months. I imagine flying over and just bringing a car on the ferry would be much easier.

Took my pathfinder to hobart last xmas...cost around $180 for the car...very cheap...cost $1600 for a cabin for 4 round trip...very expensive!!! You can get a seat for free if you dont mind sitting for about 9hrs...so fly to tas then drive the car from melbourne to sydney...you must prebook the car before you go...spots very limited...and you need alot of patience because it takes about 2hrs to boat the boat...

In regards to having a different state rego, its not properly governed.

I think the general rule is, you have 3 months to get it changed. But no one watches that clock, or even starts that clock...

I've driven a Victorian number plate in Sydney roads for 3 years and had no problems, I even had it insured under my parents details in Melbourne. (Sydney has stupid rego and insurance premiums compared to Melb, almost double the price).

And dont worry about insurance coverage, they still pay out claims interstate, I know from first hand.
