And should I spool it with braid or mono, and what size line ?? Ive been told by some people they reckon it hasn't got a lot of drag to handle big kings !!! Mine is loaded with 50lb braid but only because I had a 1500m bulk spool. I've not hit a king with it yet but have pulled in a reasonable size striped tuna without too much hassle. Fish don't know what reels attached to the other end of the hook.... they're not that smart. A 25 will handle Tuna so it will be more than capable of stopping a kingfish. IMHO if I were going out to buy line I'd prob save money and go mono if just trolling but braid if I thought I'd be bottom bashing also. I don't see much point in getting line much heavier than the max drag of the reel. Remember to use a leader that suits your need. I. E. For Kings you prob want to go quite heavy for the abrasion resistance. As above mine is loaded with 50lb depth Hunter but that's more because I had a big spool sitting there. pjbink Posted October 31, 2014 Share Posted October 31, 2014 It would cost a fortune to fill with braid, though you could use it as a top shot (or a bottom shot to boost capacity). I would fill it with 30lb mono. It should take 500 -600m depending on the diammeter. You wiil then have a balanced all round outfit you can use for light tuna and marlin fishing as well. I think many of us have tended to use heavier braid when we shifted from mono just because of diameter advantage allowed the same spool capacity without a lot of thought as to whether the drag would handle it of whether any advantage was lost by adding a fine mono leader I also have a TLD25 and I am confident it can run at the maximum drag rating for extended periods. That was with the adjustment trimmed up but comfortable. Another consideration is the true breaking strain of line. oz_brett Posted November 1, 2014 Share Posted November 1, 2014 (edited) I have my TLD25 spooled with 50LB mono The reason I use mono is the stretch of mono allows for any mistakes I might make when I get a big hit. The best Ive got on mine was a mako just over 1meter and the reel handled that with out a struggle. if was using the reel for dropping then I would use braid but all my trolling reels are loaded with mono.
