Time28
None around on Sunday but the Sunday before they were there in the morning. The wind wasn't from the NE and they were still there I find mornings at a lowish tide is best

tyrone07
I use my bream gear, guaranteed would get spooled with even a decent sized bonnie. I mainly use plastics these days the 2inch zman slim swimz in white with a 1/8th jig head is ideal. I've been using 10lb leader and have yet to drop a frigate. Still very hit and miss though when they are in there

So can use a 7ft rod with 2500reel 6 or 8lb line and 10lb leader will do the job What about spinning metals? Guest Guest123456789
Hi Camo, +1 with Tyrone on the gear. I use a heavier jig head though to get casting distance. Most guys use this for the kingys, bonnies etc. Frigates are a little different, usually 10 gram metals on ultra light gear (4 to 10 lb). Wind it in super fast. Bonnies, most guys use the SP's but i prefer metal lures, either the spanyid raiders or halco red metal twisties. 20 to 30 grams. Ive just started using 20 gram barrel sinkers painted white with the wifes nail polish (including a clear top coat). Working very well for me so far. PM me if you wanna head down, happy to send a text next time i go there. You'll need some good footwear as the ledge can get pretty hairy, expect to get wet. Adsy91
Just be aware or the angle you are holding your rod on when you go to land a fish here guys I've literally seen people take the labels off new (good quality) rods and put a bad angle on the tip when trying to pick up their fish and snap....there goes their new rod and the tackle shops are pretty wise to it so don't expect a refund if you do it. Should be some watsons leaping bonito coming through their soon too...bit of a weaker fight but gorgeous colours

I havent caught too many fish off the stones but from being in the yak and stuff i am pretty cautious of rod landing rather then grabbing the line with ykur hands. Thanks for the tip but man Sent from my SM-G920I using Tapatalk

Cheers Sent from my SM-G920I using Tapatalk Exactly mate, it's referred to in sections. The little pocket next to the boat ramp is the forst pocket (frigate central) where I've literally seen them beach themselves. The second pocket is around half way out to the point, you will see a bit of a drop off from the weed bed to the right of the first pocket. This is where the majority of bonnies are caught and if there are loads of people the lures will often turn the fish before they reach the first pocket. Off the point at the end of the shelf there is a rock sticking out a bit that you can stand on and cast directly across towards wamberal beach (keep it to the beach side of the channel marker and its all sand, a metre to the other way and your on the reef. If they aren't boiling up try the point and let it sink to the sand then rip it in. Seen a few rat kings and even some mac tuna caught this way last year. If anyone has the ability to record some footage I would be forever greatful. The closest I've come to landing a fish in brissy so far (other than catfish) was a big fat jack that smashed my lure and snapped me off in roughly 2 seconds [emoji15]

Time28
Bonnies were tiny at the haven yesterday morning. Went out to Avoca rocks this morning Bonnies were a decent size. Seen a Mack tuna caught along with a few 60cm Kings.

Seen a Mack tuna caught along with a few 60cm Kings. Those tiny bonnies make great baits if anyone is unaware. Live is best but not the easiest fish to keep alive and still great dead baits. if you get some small ones at avoca chuck em straight back out on a heavier outfit. I've seen marlin big tuna and kings hooked this way at Avoca and one good sized Mac tuna off the point at the Haven last year...the sharks love them too though obviously. Also make half decent slabs if salted correctly.
