Murrumbidgee river near tuggeranong

Hi, all my in laws live in tuggeranong ACT.

I've fished the river a few times near kambah pools and pine island targeting cod. Have had no luck at all. Been flicking lures and spinner baits at anything that looks like a fish might hang around it. Can anyone throw a few hints or tips about spots or anything else my way? If I ever do catch one it would be put back in after it had its photo taken.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks ;)

I'm much the same mate, generally won't touch bait as I can't sit still haha but as the fellas said if you use that rig and sink the hook in so the point is not visible you could possibly let it drift around you as you cast lures. Just make sure that drag is set right in the rod holder

Go for a drive and head towards Cooma fish the river in that section. I have spoken to a lot of trouties who rated it highly as trout water 20 years ago now they stick area with murrays and trout cod and they are coming back in good numbers and I have been told there are good numbers of Macquarie perch also. Bear in mind two of these species are protected so you can't target them. In saying that guys fishing fly for murrays have caught them as bycatch. D by no way do I encourage anyone to target the trout cod and maccas! Good luck

Used to be very good trout fishing the stretch of the 'bidgee towards Cooma, not any more though. There are some super areas though for Cod around the Dromore farms, have heard they are mostly Trout Cod too. The Macquarie Perch are really making a comeback, caught them all the way up to the Weir at the Cooma Pumping station whilst looking for Trout.

Cheers

  • 9 months later...

Well it took me 10 months but I finally caught a Murray cod. 48cm of native beauty. I caught it on a stump jumper. After watching numerous cod follow the lure to my feet and getting very frustrated one finally bit it. Cod was released so I can hopefully catch it again in a few years ??
