nbdshroom
Could just be coincidence that the fish weren't there/hungry (etc etc..) on the day you had the 4". These 4" ones are fine for flatties and jew. The smaller mouthed fish like bream and whiting will struggle to engulf the hook point on these larger jigs however. The other plastics you mentioned will work too, just keep persisting, I'm sure you'll get it. Wriggler plastics are a big hit with the bream. They cannot resist them at all. That hardbody (atomic crank 38 in muddy prawn) is a killer in the deep model for me. Floats up a touch fast but its got an awesome action and fish just cannot resist trying to take a bite out its tail. A few non-tailor/flathead from the past week: Edited November 5, 2013 by nbdshroom

nbdshroom
Cheers, heaps of raiders know a lot more than I do though. I only know those that have worked for me I get all my blackies as bi-catch on lures lol. You would be surprised how often a blackie will take a lure. Got them on all kinds of soft plastics - wrigglers, prawn imitations, medium-sized flickbaits. For that particular fish, yes I threw that hardz up against reeds and worked it over submerged weed and plant matter. felt the fish hit the crank and then tried to turn his head. quochuy
These nuclear chicken are great sp. 4" should work well, if you don't feel confident then you can use those jighead a that are shaped as a fish head, chop the head of the sp off and rig it on the jighead. Don't expect to see fish reacting the same with sp every time you get out there, depends on their mood and conditions (wind, currents, water visibility...) they will be aggressive or lethargic. Sometimes on different days different retrieve will work better. I think currents, waves etc... Affect the way your lure moves in the water column, so you need a different retrieve technique for the lure to be attractive. Experience will teach you, so just keep at it. Blood Knot
one more question after reading robertas posts , i picked up a small blade TTlure and hope of some bream , havnt had a good go at it as yet but can you get other types on them ? bloke at the store said whiting will hit them and just about anything if you work it right ! what tech is invoved ? cheers Bretto bretto - Cast out the blade and let it find the bottom - retrieve any slack line ( winding the the rod tip down towards the water in the process) then gently lift the rod up which will lift the lure up through the water column. You should be able to feel it vibrate as you do this if your set up is sensitive enough. Repeat the process but allow the blade to rest on the bottom for a while (say 8 to 10 secs) before each lift. There are other way to use them but this will get you started. (I find putting a little scent on them helps as well - some S factor or similar). Flatties Bream and Whiting and many others will jump on for a ride. Just be aware they can be a little prone to snagging - so have a think about where you are going to toss them Cheers Blood Knot

qnut
My advice would be to use floating hardbodys or very lightly weighted plastics In ourimbah ck. Its extremley snaggy even at the mouth. Id havr atleast 100$ sitting on the bottom there. But large flathead, bass , bream and perch are on offer there Edited June 24, 2014 by Qnut

qnut
cheers mate you still fishing that spot this time of year ? I live here, I fish it with lures alot. Tis very quiet at the moment though with my only notable catch being a 32cm bream on bread near the mouth (using bait bored out of my brains) The perch will retern in the comming months which is a fantastic way to learn your SP/HB retrieves even land based. They are thick and fast when they return to the creek albeit most lacking size it is good fun to get out at 9am or so and catch 15-20 of them in an hour. When summer is in full swing and the prawns are running you CANNOT go past wading the flats at the mouth with fly gear or surface poppers for insane bream action. At the moment the water is very clear and I havent had a hit on plastics for weeks not even tailor. Edited July 25, 2014 by Qnut
