Hi Raiders.

The end of the month will see my late fathers fly gear arrive in Australia. ( he passed a decade ago but I didn't bring it over when I emigrated)

Although I'm a passionate salt water fisho my fly experience is limited to a few trips to stocked lakes in the Welsh hills.

I don't realy know my gear that well as it was only used a few times before moving but have a couple of rods from short stream / Brook outfits to bigger two handed salmon outfits. And a bunch of flys that are probably Irelavent here

I'd like to find somewhere in the shire if possible to try for a trout? If you can share any spots or give up an hour or a morning to advise I'd realy appreciate it.

Thanks

Steve

Ohhhh if you find a place count me in Steve! I miss standing waist deep in rivers casting boobies, nymphs, stun bugs, dandruff flies and many more.

It's a great suggestion mark. And I'm sure I'll take this to salt water fly a little later. But just for now this is a bit of a nostalgia thing for me. I've a desire to have leafy trees overhead and the Babble of water over rocks. Or the sound of wood pigeons whilst the mist rises over the meadows around me.

Well perhaps?

Swordy I can put you into a resident population of browns in the Nepean! Reason you rarely see them is they are bottom dwellers in very deep water and rarely rise if they do its on last light or very early mornings when water surface temps are cool they are yabby munchers

Heard a rumour that those Browns were being hammered by some cowboys.

Jealous your heading up to Tumut, I am going to take a look at the Eucumbene this weekend to see if there are any Browns moving up yet. Heard its been very tough again.

Hi Steve

I do the same thing, fishing with late old mans gear. Catching fish means nothing compared to firing bait into the sea from his Alvey reel, or catching a trout using a fly he tied himself.

Enjoy every minute mate

Matt there was a small run up there a week ago I would check the Thredbo they are forecast rain there there's a lot of fish stacked in providence bay

Saw some reports about an early run, although there wasn't a lot of rain in the mountains themselves. The monaro copped a hammering but not up top.

Might have a look at the Thredbo as well. Its my first session for the year, need to put away my Flathead Hat and find my Trout Hat :biggrinthumb:
