will_l
Hi, I'm looking at selling my heavy jigging rod I use for live bait and trolling, and moving towards a micro jigging rod. It look's fun targeting bonito, amberjack, small kings etc and I'm not a massive fan of trolling and livebaiting. Looking at doing 60-80g jigs. I have a semi-idea of ideal rods for slow pitch micro jigging but still a bit confused as too suited reels. I dont have a huge budget so the current setup I'm looking at is Rod: Storm GO-C-601L (.8-1.5 p.e 6ft micro jigging rod) Reel: Daiwa Tatula HD 200hs Line: 15lb depth braid Any help and tips on the current setup I'm looking at would be much appreciated. Thanks a lot, Will
recurve
Hey Will My favourite is a Gomuki Blue Kotana?? I run 10 Pound on a 4000 reel average quality. I have also been running a Baitrunner 4000 on it as well. Love it so much I use it to drift plastics and jigs down a burley trail. Works really well. Nothing like fighting a 4KG Red in 12m on a wee rod like this. Highly Recommend it. Rod is more important than the reel. I recommend fishing as light a line and leader as you can. Thanks a lot, I was thinking about spin but then started looking at overhead. Main reason I'm looking at a baitcaster is I've heard overhead is better for micro jigging? Also I want to try overhead out as I haven't used it many times... Edited May 18, 2016 by will_l

Recurve I'm with you on the Gomuku rods Recurve. You can use these all day long. A word of caution though for anyone who invests in one, they are fragile rods if not treated with care around the boat. The guides have a single foot so if you accidentally catch then on something you can pull them straight off and the light graphite blanks don't stand up to getting slapped against the side of the boat - the sort of thing that can happen landing a fish or handling it on board. Yes, I have broken one near the tip and pulled a runner off another. Cheers Jim
will_l
Ok, great. So I'm pretty set on the gomkou rod then. Any help on an overhead reel for it? I'm going to get a pe 1.5 rod so am going to use 15lb on the reel. Thanks a lot, Will
amkr
I've got a black gomoku and a blue gomoku, I'm by no means gentle with my rods and I haven't ran into any issues yet

amkr
Who knows with graphite rods. I've got 3 or 4 dropshots now, first 2 I owned broke really easily - these 4 get a beating and show no signs of giving up
will_l
Is it true a reel with 75cm+ retrieval per crank is pretty necessary for good slow pitch, micro jigging?
recurve
Is it true a reel with 75cm+ retrieval per crank is pretty necessary for good slow pitch, micro jigging? I have found that Swell is your best friend when slow jigging. Some movement in the boat combined with slow retrieve seems to be effective. Best results I have had with slow jigs is leaving them in the rod holder while i fish other rods. I just love hooking up with these rods so use them for all sorts. My crew look at me sideways when they see me casting plastics with it but hey, it works. I too am pretty rough with my gear and not broken my Gomoku. When I purchased it the guy at the Tackle Shop warned me to pick one with no manufacturing defects or blemishes as they can cause weakness. Best to only buy a perfect blank. They are very well priced but maybe the QA is not great so be picky.
Raymondo
I've also snapped a gomoku black jig rod, just before first eye. Right where it would sit/rub on gunnel. Great rods but really need to be treated with care during storage, transit etc.
will_l
Today I bought a storm adajo that is made for slow pitch jigging which is really what I'm looking at. Going to use it with 80 and 100g slow pitch jigs. I'm using my Stradic 4000 fk with 20lb depth line. I'll let you guys know how it goes. Hopeing it'll work well around some wrecks and the artificial and hopefully a drift out a longy etc.
