Smoking fish on the stove?

Hey folks,

Yesterday I went out and caught a couple of good-sized tailor. I've read they're a good fish for smoking, but I don't really have the facilities here... or so I thought. A quick trawl through youtube suggests it's possible to smoke stuff on your stove with rice, tea and a few other aromatics. According to the vids I've watched, you line a pan with tinfoil then chuck in the smoking ingredients, put a rack over the top and sit your fish on it. The whole thing then gets covered in another layer of tinfoil to stop the smoke escaping. Supposedly takes about 8-10 mins to cook a fillet from fresh.

Just wondered if anyone's tried this method before and whether it's worthwhile. I know frying or baking would be a lot simpler, but I'm keen to try something new.

Cheers,

Adam

I smoked a trout on my BBQ earlier in the year. My BBQ doesn't have a hood but found a video on YouTube that helped out.

- make a pouch out of aluminium foil

- put damp smoking chips into the pouch

- slide it under the grill

- heat it up until it smokes

- heat goes down

- fish goes on the grill with a upturned pot to capture the smoke

Worked great. Im keen to try it on some slimies or yakkas.

Interesting.

I used to smoke fish all the time with an smoker my old man gave me.

I reckon it was about 50 years old when he gave it to me but eventually it got tossed.

I bought a new one from the camping shop but I could not get a decent result so I ditched that one too.

I might give the BBQ method go.

Thanks for the ideas and the post Adam.
