lee3914
I have recently moved to the Newcastle region from the UK and was surprised to find a number of freshwater fish here that are fished for in the UK. Being an avid freshwater fisherman I was wondering if there are any reports of Tench being caught in the Newcastle and Hunter region. Thanks. bessell1955
I would think not, but perhaps you may be confusing Tench for Bass or Estuary Perch.
NaClH2OK9
I used to fish for tench as a child in gravel pits around Oxfordshire. I've not heard of them as an introduced species here though. Sent from my SM-G920I using Tapatalk
Ryder
They have been introduced here. They have trouble competing with the carp. http://www.nativefish.asn.au/exotics.html
big Neil
Welcome to Australia and Fishraider Lee. I, too came from England a long time back. Used to fish for tench in ponds and streams. You won't find many here though. You may have to learn to discard the way Carp are treated in the UK... when fishing here. They are a noxious pest and should be humanely killed. There's plenty of top anglers in the Newcastle /Central Coast area that belong to this site. Hope some of them read your posts and give you local advice. Cheers. Space Ace
Hi mate, I can remember my father talking of catching Tench in Lake Mulwala on the Murray River in the Fifties and Sixties , in all the time I've fished these waters over 35 years I've never heard of them being caught. Cheers.
