Space Ace
Hi All , I'm just getting back into fishing , I will be bait fishing from my boat for cod and yellow belly and would like advice on a good rod/reel combo that will handle bigger fish and won't break the bank. Cheers. Space Ace.
JA1990
Others may disagree but depending on what you are doing. I would just get a light ugly stick and a reel inbetween 2000-4000. Shimano AX series are cheap and RELIABLE. I have had my 2000 AX for about 4 years and use it for SW SPs and still going strong. If you are planning on fishing the banks look into a 4000. Mono will be fine. Probably in between 6 - 12lb.
big Neil
I bait fish for Cod and Yellahs all the time and there's no need for expensive gear. DO NOT GET A GRAPHITE ROD!.A 4-8 kg, 1.8 mtr fibreglass rod with a 4000 size reel will suit. Get a quality 15 - 20 lb mono line and you're in business. What part of Victoria are you fishing? Cheers, Neil.
