Rainy morning on Pittwater

Hi all. I went to Pittwater this morning - for a solo session chasing pelagics. I take just lures and flies and look mainly for surface activity. This morning started out slow - got there about 7am and spent the first couple of hours cruising around without seeing much. Then, about 11:00 am there was a purple patch.

I've found the Pittwater rat kingfish to be pretty reluctant to take a surface fly or lure for the last few trips but for an hour or so today they dropped all caution. I ended up with 4 kings plus 2 dropped, about 10 not particularly welcome tailor, and 3 bonito. This was during that period of really intense rain - made me wonder if there was any connection.

This morning I saw only one other boat fishing - made me wonder if there was a connection there too. This other boat was concentrating on an area at the northern tip of Careel Bay - in amongst the last of the moorings on the northern side of Careel where it meets Pittwater proper. I've seen other people fishing there before - whats that all about ? - is there a wreck there, or a reef or something ?

All today's fish were caught on a single rapala-style hardbody bought from Daiso (and therefore $2.80, as is everything in a Daiso). The hooks needed changing pretty early and the lure was looking a bit mangy by the end but it held up.

All fish released except 4 tailor for dinner.

cheers

Hope to head out that way in the next week targetting kings in pittwater and jews in the patonga region! :biggrinthumb:

Let us know how you go. I'm particularly interested in the jews at Patonga. We have a holiday home at Patonga but I've never tried targeting jewfish there. I know Juno point is close but I've never gone out there - truth is I wouldn't know where to start with jewfish. Even a little soapie would be pretty exciting for me.

cheers
