tuffy
Hi fellow Raiders. Just wondering if anyone has a lifting ring to suit Mercury. It seems the only place I can get one is the USA and are quite expensive. Only need it for a one-time job to get the donk off the boat for painting. Happy to pay a reasonable price. Please PM me or preferably call me on 0402 110 666. Thanks in advance, Tuffy ( Russ)
Fab1
Any chance you can make one?All you need is a bolt to suit,1 nuts,a piece of pipe, and a drill and bit/s. As you say it's a one time use. If you can source these things just cut a 2 inch length off a piece of thick walled pipe and drill a hole large enough in the centre to accommodate the head of the bolt you intend to use through one side of the pipe only. Then using a smaller drill bit drill the other side to accommodate the threaded portion of the bolt. Sit your washer inside the pipe over the small hole you drilled and pass the bolt right through the pipe and washer and install your nut on the bolt and do if up tight. Thread this where you would normally use the lifting ring and attach your chain through the pipe using your lifting crane to remove your engine. Those "specialised" tools are not needed in many cases and as you've found out are quite expensive. There's heaps of methods you can use depending how handy you are with tools, welders and if you know someone to make one up for you. Another option if you have a welder or know someone is weld a length of chain on either side if the bolt to create a loop and use that to attach to the hook on your crane. Good luck with it mate.
