Lake Illawarra - 2 men caught with 114 tailor.

10 posts in this topic

Not sure if this is old, but just heard on the radio that 2 men where caught with 114 tailor in lake illawarra where found guilty and have to pay fines of $4000 each.

The legal limit is of course 20 per person. Seriously $4000 isn't enough, they knew damn well what they where doing.

I kind of agree, but what is an appropriate fine and or punishment for taking more than your limit of Tailor? 37 each over thier bag limit = $108.10 per fish and I reckon $4000 would make most people think twice.

There probably aren't that many people who can drop $4000 without it having an impact. I think it'll have the desired effect without making their families destitute.

You'd really have to wonder why they'd keep that many. Wouldn't they be better to stay within their bag limit and go back for fresh fish? Unless they were selling them...

There is a very big black market for tailor, if you hide the fish underneath the deck you'd probably lose your boat but just place them in the esky and act dumb and its a fairly small fine, these guys must have had form as six to nine hundred dollars would be more likely for a first offence.

Hey, why would there be a black market in particular for tailor? They are a fairly ordinary eating fish?

Personal taste, but a lot of older people who are in the least position to afford seafood of any description do like them so would be interested in buying black market. If treated right and killed bled and gutted straight away they are not a bad eating fish at all.

They are fairly good eating fresh, but they cook very well in the smoker and will keep for quite a while that way, and some people prefer smoked fish rather than fresh cooked.

Just go to windang bridge any night of the week and you will see this. If not exceeding the limit they are taking undersize fish. Now i have a phone number for fisheries so their time is up.

Unfortuantely they are way, way under resourced so most of those calls will go unanswered. Im not having a go at fisheries just the people that allocate funds!

it happens all the time down the lake seen buckets full of undersize fish even seen people with a built in mincer so the small fish can get minced and cant tell what they are these people are destroying fishing for everyone and if fish cant grow they cant breed so there will be nothing should be tougher penatlys for this.
