Do you prefer other types of forums more or perhaps facebook is better??? Surfing the web on other forums in different parts of the country, unless talking about tackle, the feel, the chat, the lingo is a little out of tune, not by much but enough to make me move on, but even on other sydney based sites, I still don't get the same satisfaction. 2) The moderators do a good job keeping it all very nice and pleasant. 3) The absolute wealth of knowledge in the many aspects of the reason we all congregate here, weather it be about rods, reels, lures, fishing line and the list goes on with all the finer points, boating (Huey, a legend of a man who responds whole-heartedly with every intention of helping to the best of his ability) and all the other personalities who contribute with their peice of the pie weather it be a sliver of knowledge or an expirience which minimises the heart ache involved with learning the hard way, current events, finding fishing buddies fishing reports, swap and sell, competitions and prizes and so on and so on.... 4) Easily accessible via tapatalk. brickman Posted December 21, 2012 Share Posted December 21, 2012 when i joined fishraider i fished for flattys from a crap old nautiglass 18 footer after i year off break downs and getting ripped off by boat service places i bit the bullet and purchased a new savage but i joined fish raider looking for a tustworthy place to get it serviced that was the main reason i joined and got the good oil on craig what a ledgend well a few years have passed and with the help from fellow raiders with tips and locations now i'm catching marlin off sydney now i like to give back and help newbees get the passion for fishing starting with the basic getting a feed or keeping the kids busy catching yakkas i get a real buzz when a plan leads to catching fish thats what i think is the real goal off this site sharing the passion for fishing thanks to all the team at fish raider and to the back bone off the site [donna] have a safe and fun xmas cheers gary Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

To add to this, I joined the site years ago but only in the past few months, I started absorbing as much info as I could from the site and started actively fishing more regularly. In my early fishing days, all my sessions were landbased with the one fibreglass rod and the same old rig sending out stinking prawns or pillies for either undersized fish or the dreaded donut. Now my trips are out on the water on the yak with some fellow raiders, with several rods and rigs for different occasions and I rarely encounter donuts unless I'm experimenting with something new. There are other great sources of information out there but you have to go and look for it, where as with FishRaider, it's all collectively here and if it isn't, you can just ask and normally get positive responses. boattart Posted December 21, 2012 Share Posted December 21, 2012 I sit in front of a PC all day everyday and watch a couple of sites after I was introduced by a friend. I have gamefished hard for the better part of the last 30 years but with younger children want to keep them involved and interested. I found this site after reference from a friend and found that the variety of opinion and the willingness to share suited me. Last year I bought a boat through ex site sponsor Sport fishing boats through a deal with Wye River Marine how are a current sponsor. My aim was to have a boat that could fish inshore or offshore as the kids grew up and developed their experience. This site gives me information from fishermen of various backgrounds and areas to help me find fish as I change from one style of fishing to another. Through Fishraider I have also met a few people who I have fished with so far only on an occasion each but people that I felt loved their sport and people I would enjoy the company of again. As a pastime fishing does take up the majority of my time and as such I don't have the time for the fools that exist on some other sites. I joined Fishraider 6 years ago, after 'lurking' for about 6 months .......... and I found that the information supplied was just terrific & the members, friendly. Fishraider is very much a non confrontational Forum that is very family friendly. You can allow your 10 year old to get on & read posts & not be afraid of filthy language & sexist insinuation. Congratulations to all the mods for doing such a terrific job there!! It has made Fishraider the forum that it is today! After joining Fishraider & discovering so many fellow Fishing Addicts (many of whom I now count as personal friends) ........ I was reading all the reports put up by Stewy & Jewhunter & other revered Raider personalities ........ and slowly, I started catching my targetted species using tips & info that I had gleaned from the site!! I even gave Luderick/Blackfish a go & now just LOVE catching blackies!! SO...... after starting off using mainly as a bait fisho & getting the odd bream & a few flatties - I now began to understand what I'd been reading about all those years previously - about TARGETTING and catching 'specific' fish! Any that I had caught were just plain good luck (for me, not so the fish!) Also, as I didn't catch that many fish back then, I guess you could say I was a member of the 'Killit & Fillit' brigade! I would bring most of my fish home for a feed or to spread round to friends who don't fish. I now pretty well only use Lures & Sps and target specific fish whenever I go out (tho occasionally I will pull some worms & soak a bait at the beach .......) and I only keep the odd fish now & then, mainly flatties & blackfish, as I reckon they are the best eating fish in the sea! So ....even tho I have always loved my fishing, I wasn't always a good fisho! Now ..... I would say I am a 'moderately good' fisho, thanks to all the info that I have gleaned from fellow fishraiders! Back then, I was still using crap gear & was too scared to chuck my lures into the snaggy areas (where we ALL know now - THAT is where the fish live! ) Grant/Jewhunter can tell of my first meeting with him on the water at Brunswick Heads - I couldn't catch a fish to save my life (or do accurate casting) & I was about to chuck all this fishing in ......... then he suggested a few things - I changed to braid & almost instantly became a better caster (and birdsnest undoer. ) Now I chuck my lures EVERYWHERE & blow me down, I've pulled some big fish out of almost impossible holes in leases here!! I gradually upgraded my rods to better ones & recently added a couple of 2nd hand Certates to my stable of gear! In January, a buddy of mine from Old Bar is making me 2 specialist bream casting rods ......... with Microwave Guide Systems on them - wait til you see THEM!! I am about to trial some new braid that is absolutely thin as ..... called SAS Braid - I'll let you know how I go with it!! I want to cast my shrimp flies from a spin rod & have a good chance of bringing them in!! I reckon this is the stuff that will do it! If you are a 'lurker' - ie reading all the fishing reports & tips that abound on the forum but not submitting any of your own - sit back & have a serious think about contributing to the site yourself! I bet you have a few tips that you could pass on to help your fellow fishos - and then join in on other conversations & meet up with fellow members, to the advantage of both! With the upgrade of my boat and deciding to forget about golf and concentrate on fishing I've become an "active" member and used the site to gain a stack of information. I've looked on other forums, and they seem to be pushing certain brands or views excessively. Yes I'm on Facebook but I can't read any more insignificant details of my "friends" lives... That and everyone seem to be selling something on there now. The tapatalk option has really made it easy for me to jump on the phone or iPad and see what's happening. With two young kids, (and one more on the way) I can't get out as much as I'd like, so I live vicariously through others. I've chatted to a few members via P.M and got to meet a few, ( Stewy included) on a reef magic charter and every one on the site seem to be here for the same reason, fishing and learning a bit more.most everyone is happy to share a few tips. Jew Stalker Posted January 5, 2013 Share Posted January 5, 2013 I first noticed fishraider when I was looking for more information about tactics and information on different fish habits, habitats, food they eat, lures and whatever else you can imagine. Each time I googled something on one of these subjects a link to fishraider would never be too far away. After managing to get an email which was accepted by the site A whole new world opened up to me. Since then I have met good people who are willing to share their knowledge, even met a couple in person (Royce and Trevor) who I had a great time fishing with over the mountain who also shared their valuable knowledge and techniques. I even got the gist of fly fishing by watching Royce do his thing (although I did not give it a go I saw the mechanics of it). The place is a literal goldmine of piscatorial information. Davemmm Posted January 5, 2013 Share Posted January 5, 2013 It's simple - sharing knowledge. Other sites have simply been "brag boards" but the members here give out a reasonable amount of info. Whilst there are plenty of posts here that go:- went fishing, caught one this big, heres a photo. Sooner or later those members start to contribute a lot more info. The other thing i love about this site is the "No Crap" policy. Boofheads are soon weeded out and real contributors are encouraged. For this the owners and mods must be congratulated. The amount of members contributing (I'm guilty of failing in this regard recently) far outweighs most other sites. An example of this is Friday when the site was down i did a simple google search of "Port Hacking Fishing Reports", Fishraider came up with one from last week and the next nearest one was from March. Says it all really. Lastly if it wasnt for Stewey I wouldnt have a Polycraft and that was the best move i have made for many years. Dave Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

The content is improving in reports which helps us all learn a bit more about the sport we all love. My wife hates it because I'm always on it. However I wish I had have joined years ago! No matter what I need to know I can always find the answers here in the forum with a simple search. I love seeing everyone's pictures and results after their fishing trips and it makes me keener to get out there and try for myself. The amount of info here is astounding and if it is not here just post a question and someone will give you the answer. The boat ramp section is also great you can check them out without leaving your home. Regardless whether online or in person everyone is friendly and willing to help you with their special tips. And where else can you enter a monthly fishing comp with great prizes. Thanks Admin and mods for a great job and please keep it up. I forgot the SOCIALS they were always fun and very informative. bassboy888 Posted January 10, 2013 Share Posted January 10, 2013 Well I joined the site 3 and a bit years ago as we were new to sydney and needed a few pointers,since then Dad and I have significantly improved our fishing skills from every piece of knowledge we soaked up. I love this site and all the effort the moderators do to keep it functioning. More on what I like is how organised it is, every report, question or piece of info has a place. But to be able to let your kids freely access the site with no apprehensions is the crowning glory. Hats off to admin(bows low). Noone is made unwelcome and the wealth of information and friends to be made are to be envied by other forums....
