  1. Me and Amy managed a kidfree weekend so what better way to spend it than camping and fishing. We started by heading up into the Nymboi-binderay national park out to cod hole campground on the Nymboida river. I had heard the river was at an all time low and barely flowing so we were pleasantly surprised to find it looking pretty good only slightly down on what it normally is. We wasted no time getting to the water and starting to cast........... and cast............. and cast some more! The fish decided they were going to play haed to get. We ept persisting and finally I hear Amy call out so I go running over (giving myself a fine ankle bruise in the process) to find her with her first cod. A beautiful fish, quickly released, leaving Amy 1 up and bragging rights were claimed Over the afternoon and next morning we saw loads of fish but no action, apart from me getting busted off thanks to my line just snapping which about summed up my Nymboida leg of the trip and solemly swear I'll never buy Daiwa J-braid again and thanks to a backlash from the lure catching a branch on the cast I've replaced it. So with severly wounded pride I drove out of the Nymboida to our trout spot. The creek was a bit low but still looking awesome as ever Didn't take long to find some trout, they were aggressive chasing and hitting the lures it was just a bit difficult getting the hooks to stay in. After several thrown hooks and my patience wearing a little thin finally a fish stayed on and out came nice rainbow. never felt so relieved to land a fish Woring along the creek we kept casting with plenty of hits and follows but the low water making it difficult. Then with a little back cast into a pool out comes a little brown continuing upstream Amy was having a tough session so to cheer her up a bit, I say to her watch this, and call out "Hail Mary" and lauching a cast as far as I can up the creek into a bunch of small pools. The cast landed in a tiny pool and was instantly nailed by a quality brown, the fish cartwheeled over shallow and almost dry rocks staying connected still can't believe I pulled it off it's certainly won me some bragging rights. Amy's tough luck continued the fish just wouldn't stay connected for her including some really solid fish but to her credit she kept casting to add to her frustrations I put a cast in a run after she had puy atleast 10 in it and pulled out a rainbow Amy being the determined fisho she is kept casting and casting with the property boundary getting close she finally had a fish stay connected despite it jumping over and over A nice rainbow to finish the trip, the fishing was tough but I reckon it's the tough days that make you appreciate catching a fish, hopefully some rain in the near future will improve the fishing cheers for reading Dave

  2. Late report but had to get the boat out before it grew roots last Tuesday morning. Hit grays solo about 8am and headed out to give her a good squirt in the river. My main objective for the day was taking her out for a run and just relaxing without thinking about work and perhaps having a swim but still packed bait and berley. I went into the swa and found a nice hole on the sounder with good bait showing in about 20m of water.I threw the anchor down then deployed the burly. Two rods went out one with squid and one with salted tailor fillets. I managed to catch a few fish(most undesized) but 2 legal whiting, some trevally and a nice bream plucked out from the rocky shore. I tried on this trevally that went back taking photos on my phone but i found it almost impossible with the other rod going off and crap on the floor of the boat.lol Highlight of the day if you can call it that was hooking a rat and it breaking my reels drag on a squid strip losing it boatside.(It's a old cheap reel). Ended up at bundeena swimming and just having a leisurely day out on the boat. All fish returned to water to give Yowie a chance of catching a feed as i feel sorry he never catches anything. The mexican photographed isn't me but is hiding from Trump. Boat ran like a trouper since i resolved issues. Thanks for reading.

  3. The crew made an impulsive decision to go out fishing for the weekend after viewing the forecast. Casual afternoon fishing at its finest a nice 90cm (6kg) kingfish followed by a fantastic feed of reef species and a gummy shark.

  4. We hadn’t fished our haunts on the Hawkesbury for some years and had real doubts about the likelihood of fish. Luderick have been very scarce on the South coast this summer and likewise on the North Coast last winter. I was even more sceptical when I saw how few posts there are on Fishraider. About 2 weeks ago we had a short session in a southerly and produced a few fish. A good start and I was keen to see what would happen in good conditions. Last Friday we fished in glorious conditions and the fishing was good. We landed about 20 fish up to 39cm’s, kept a few and had a lovely day. The average size was very good Fished again the next day with similar results with fish up to 42cm’s. We had quite a few bust offs on bigger fish as they run you around the rocks in some spots. 42 is about as big as we seem get them out. You can go up to 10lb trace with the coloured water and still get busted. In 2 days we saw only one other boat. We saw wonderful sea eagles and lovely scenery. Just the best time. Geoff and Evi

  5. Took the kids for a camp at Wyangala Dam over the weekend. Arriving at 10 am we headed out for a fish targeting cod. Started covering a sandy bank with plenty of layed down timber and a few rocky outcrops that had previously produced fish. Plenty of bait and fish showing on the sounder between 5 to 7m but no luck on spinnerbaits or crankbaits so in the hope to just catch a fish I changed it up to a small bass style chatterbait on a 3-4kg outfit. Shortly after landing a small cod that kept the kids entertained. Due to the heat we called it a day at around 1:30. Tried again today on a steep timber lined bank, very slow going only a couple of hits on a redfin coloured fish trap that did not hook up. Overall pretty slow going but the kids were happy enough seeing their 2nd cod ever. Cheers Trav

  6. Fished a well known ledge on the Central Coast on Sunday. Arrived at 5:30am and sat at the rocks waiting for first. Landed the 3 Bonnies by 8am. Decided to call it quits as there wasnt much action with lures or baits by other fishos.

  15. Another tip that saved us heaps is when driving into town don’t fill up at the first servo but drive through and into the back streets & look for a fuel co-op or similar we saved up to 10c a litre on desiel and with a long range tank and distances traveled that ends up being quite a bit, we stumbled across this in SA & WA I’m sure other states & towns would have the same. Not all towns but it only takes 5 to 15mins

  19. It hasn’t been a good season yet this year, even the port shoot out tournament had low numbers caught keep working the bait schools and watch the water temp and grapevine and with a bit of luck you will get on, heard of a wahoo and a couple of beakies caught the other week off broken bay & someone put up a report of yellowfin caught at the southern canyons

  21. I didn’t have a boat loader but did put some long rollers on the back of the roof rack when someone in Adelaide loaned me there 12ft stacer. For unloading I’d just back up to the water & slide it off onto its transom and then lower the bow down, it wasn’t to hard two up and do the reverse to reload onto the roof rack, I could do it on my own with a bit of effort but that was 30 years ago. I saw a set up of a rectangular home made frame that cradled the boat with a roller at the front of one of those all in one racks with a trailer winch attached to the bull bar, he was in his late 50’s and on his own, from memory he had a length of cable with a loop in the middle & a carabiner on each end creating a vee over the transom & half way up the hull attached to the carry handles & winch hooked to the loop via the front roller as well as a couple of wheels on the back of the boat(both set ups were 4wd),another thing we noticed was how much cooler it was in the car with the boat on top acting like a second roof skin, the boat was offloaded when camping for extended stays by a river or beaches rather than day trips. We liked free camping so it was either on our own or just a few other people and occasionally a caravan park by the water

  22. The getting wet is only when it’s pretty choppy, the kids are at the front and the winds blowing, close the window and put the kids at the back and the wetness drops off. On a good day with less than 1m swell we don’t get wet at all.

  23. I found good sources for areas Information ℹ️ shops and grabbing anything of interest for a read up later including the local paper, talking to people particularly getting to know locals who would quite often divulge swimming or fishing holes & favourite spots of interest not on the tourist route

  24. No big deal if they don't work, I only outlaid about $20 on enough materials to make roughly 30 to 40 lures.
