  1. Hi raiders, Headed to Yowie bay boat ramp today again hoping for a 3rd consecutive trevally in as many days. Again I fished the last hour and a half of the run-in and the first half an hour of the run out. No luck with the trevas today (couldn't cast into the channel because of the southerly wind). Ended up with a couple of jackets under the jetty pretty decent size. Not as good as a trevally but i'll take a feed of leather jacket any day

  2. Picked up a new telephoto lens earlier this year and really enjoying playing with it for nature and other stuff (see below). I know the moon shots have been done many times better by many others but there is a great deal of satisfaction in doing it myself and learning from it. Canon 80D with Sigma 150-600mm lens. Straight from camera. No cropping or editing.

  3. Haven't been doing much of anything the past couple of weeks. Got the Scorpion in having service done on the ETec and 2 funerals with another one some time during the next week. However I have managed a couple of jobs on the trailer and it is coming together and starting to look something like a boat trailer. The welding is pretty well complete. Need to get the axle springs , and hubs wheels happening now, and ending up with the guards and lights. Then I will go about fitting the whole thing up to make it drive on /off . I may have to re locate the keel rollers to the front of the Xmembers. A couple of extra days work I hadn't planned on. Anyhow hope those of you that are still interested find this in some way helpful. Frank

  5. I too am learning Derek. I have a Canon Power Shot SX70 HS and I got a nice Manfrotto tripod for Christmas. I tested it out on the recent blood moon. Here is a small selection of the dozens I took. I use my iPhone for most pics. On our travels I have enjoyed using the Canon for some flora and fauna shots. Your shots look very clear. I need to learn about the settings.

  6. I swore I’d never fish Sydney harbour on a long weekend again (with “ramp mayhem” and traffic), however I promised my doctor I’d take his boys out fishing and Saturday was the only day that suited. The weather prediction wasn’t great and Thursday / Friday before was cold and wet, but Saturday turned out pretty good (thank you God) and a 10kt wind meant no fog. Yakkas were easy and perfect “Kingie candy” size and we had a tank full of livies and squid in no time so headed outside. The swell resulted in no 2 son (Randy) getting crook so we headed back in and the first live Yakka got smashed by an oversized king. I handed the rod to Minh to get his first kingfish, however he must have watched too many fishing shows and was yo-yoing the rod a bit over enthusiastically. The result was busted line😞😞😞 and no Kingie - disappointing as I estimated it at around a meter. We then started to get small kingfish and then Barracuda turned up😞😞. Again surprising as the water temp was 18.2degrees so not that cold. We also got into some XOS salmon. All fish caught on Yakkas, Yakkas flesh strip and squid strips. Location was the wreck just inside North Head.

  8. Hi Donna, The settings for recent ones were: F stop f/6.3 (more or less set by the lens at this magnification) Exposure time 1/800 ISO 200 (more detail but risk getting it darker). I was also a bit lucky in that it was super clear where I was in Sydney when I took that. Just kicking myself because if I'd gotten down to the water an hour earlier they would have been even better. Regards, Derek PS. I like your collection of supermoon photos.

  9. Went down the river sat morning for 40 minutes to have a fish with my son and grandson Baxter. Baxter did the right thing and scored a 40 cm as reported in another post. Today I went with 2 other grandsons, they scored a couple of fish but it was my day with a 43cm fish on 2kg. Weighed in at 1.09 kg, equal to the best I've caught in the Georges river.

  10. There has been no official statement on the DPI website or no media release. Ensure you fish within your LGA (local government area) as per the orders.

  19. I previously repaired and strengthened the winch post on the Scorpion's trailer and thought it was a simple but effective design, so I copied it. Pretty simple design which allows adjustment forward/back and up/down . Managed to buy new winch at approx 1/2 price which is a good saving. The boat will be mainly drive on so the winch will only be employed with the last few inches up to the post. Thanks for those still watching this long drawn out topic. Next thing is finishing the welding on the main frame. Then mounting the axle onto the springs and finally mounting the spring assembly onto the trailer frame, fitting winch post and deciding how long I want the draw bar to be and welding on safety chains and coupling, and finally the lights. Still a bit of work to do, so please stay tuned. Frank
