  1. For a second there, I thought u said CRAP fishing... so opened this thread to see why someone would say fishing is crap! Anyways, all the best mate.
  2. Wow. Some nice catches there. I've never had much luck with chicken gut. They just tend to stink up my hands.
  3. I fished at Newcastle over the Easter weekend, land based. Managed to land a few tailor. Some of the locals there reckoned that Toronto is the best place to fish around there.
  4. Wise words Mrsswordfisherman. As a fellow newbie, I'll try give some advice, please correct me if I'm wrong, fishraiders! Are you landbased? Cos I am.So all I can give you is landbased spots, and I've only caught stuff on bait fishing. Havent had much luck in SPs or hard bodies. Bait: I find prawns to generally fit the newbie fisho. They do tend to fall off quite often but have a relatively high strike rate. I've also used pieces of pilchards or cut up squid. What to take there: A fishing rod & reel! I'm an absolute amateur reading tips/idea/hints from this site so I cant answer this question to any detail. And generally, if a question is asked to members here, they WILL help. Its awesome! Location: You could try Spit Bridge, Blues Point, Pier 2, Sow & Pigs, Clifton gardens, along the Eastern beaches .... pretty much the list is endless. What you need to look for is somewhere where there is structure where fish can hide. (Experienced Raiders, please help me elaborate on this point!!!)
  5. As usual, im too late.... I'll still go out fishing this weekend though!
  6. Woohoo.. I'm a little pilchard for all you predatory fishes...
  7. Its not really a joke but what happened this morning isnt it? hahahaha Good one though.
  8. G'day fishraiders, Hope you're all not too tired out from the long weekend fishing trips! Anyways, I was wondering if anyone here is a fan of putting a small strip of red tubing or red bead just above your hook when fishing. I saw an elderly gent fishing on the Brighton Le Sands breakwalls the other day with a set up like that. From what I saw, he hadn't caught anything yet. The question is, does the red tubing/beads work? What species do they attract? And where would be the best spots to use them? (Beach, estuary, harbour, etc?)
  9. Awesome stuff mate!!! Fighting a marlin sure beats going to the gym!
  10. Thanks guys for the replies. Got back with a bag of 2 tailors. And a few throw back breams from the Stockton breakwall. Fished early morning yesterday when all the relos were still sleeping and got back after they finished breakfast. Good morning all round.
  11. Awesome report and pictures guys. Makes me jealous reading this from work.
  12. It will be "small fish" for the cops though. Pardon the pun. I dont think they will give too much attention to that. They obviously targeted the elder couple be it for their age or their language barrier.
  13. Cheers.. Will give the Stockton area a go. Will be sure to post photos if I do score some report worthy fish.
  14. Gday raiders!! Was wondering if any ones been fishing up Newcastle way before and willing to share some hot spots. The story is: The Mrs and my inlaws are heading up that way for a weekend break over Easter, to visit MORE inlaws! (There goes my Easter "holidays") Its going to be a massive bore fest so I was thinking of secretly packing my rods fora fishing trip or two. Maybe jump out of bed at dawn and fish around there and be back by lunch. So, is there any recommended spots (landbased) within close range of the Newcastle area? Thanks in advance for saving my Easter holiday

    3 Easy Ones

You beat me to it... hahahaa
  16. Oh really? I didnt know you couldnt fish at Birkenhead. Would have been good to drop the Mrs. there for shopping then hop off for a few casts.
  17. Good work mate.. Nice looking fish!
  18. Fished Pier 2 at dusk today. Nothing worth mentioning! There was still about 30 fishos there and the place was packed. (Not nearly as packed as the mornings I was told). The only person that was pulling up fish was a fisho armed with live yabbies and casting half way across the harbour. He caught 2 sizeable breams, and had a massive bust off.
  19. Great post James. Sorry couldnt make it there this morning but it seems you had heaps of fun! And to think that you had to wake up at 4 something to make it there. Thats dedication I might go to the Pier at around 4-5pm tomorrow afternoon if youre still keen. Did u manage to get a pic of the travelly?

    City Fishing

All the best boys. I dropped by Pier 2 after work today for a look see. (Never fished there before) There was already heaps of people there fishing. Some guy caught a decent flathead (at least 40 cm) and a legal sized bream. Seems its a good place to spend the afternoon too.

When are you guys going there? I sometimes fish Blues Point on weekends but if you guys are planning to fish the Pier, I wouldnt mind joining.
  22. Nice Fishraider measuring mat!! Where do u get one of those? haha
  23. Thanks for that info Hodgey! Great help indeed. May I ask a stupid question? For a mono 6lb line, wont that snap easily if you hook on a legal sized bream or flathead? (Sorry, Im a real amateur at fishing.. )
  24. Very informative reading jewgaffer! Thanks for writing that, it certainly gives a noob like me great thought on when to go fishing! Cheers
  25. Awesome catch mate!!! Where abouts were you fishing?
