  1. My biggest issue when using a 12ft rod + lots of weight (full pilchard + star sinker) is that during my swing, the weight of the load would cause the line to slip out of my hand that is holding the line against the rod grip. Sometimes I get really nasty braid cuts. I bought some casting gloves for the beach and it has helped A LOT. I only use the right hand glove and it gives me extra grip. Nothing worse than line slicing open your soft, wet skin between your fingers..

  3. Thanks for all the replies. I found this website - this company can re-rate a boat for a higher HP motor if needed and supply a new plate. http://kpsmaritime.com.au/service-survey-quote/?pgn=ss
  4. Hello Raiders, I have an older 1972 14ft Cruise Craft run about - the motor has had it. (But the hull is still immaculate) The hull is rated for 75hp and currently has a 1972 Evinrude 70hp motor on it. I have been hunting around for a second hand motor and came across an Evinrude 2 stroke, 90hp motor ~2013 model that weighs 117kg. My question is - would the hull have been rated for a 75hp motor based on the expected weight of a 75hp motor or the power output ? My train of thought is that a 1972 model 70hp motor is going to be just as heavy as a modern 90hp motor. Can anyone suggest any reason other than weight why it would be a bad idea to put a motor that is 15HP more than the hull is rated for ? Boat is used for fishing getting from A to B - a bit of trolling and some waterskiing. Thanks in advance for any replies!
  5. I find the bread falls off the hook very very easily .. any tips? I have seen the guide to using a rolling pin to compress the air out of the bread.
  6. Go on the DPI website and look up the water maps. They have mapped out the waterways and you can find deep holes etc to target. Apparently there is a deep hole near one of the bridges ( Tom Uglies? ) that is popular for Jews.
  7. I used to take half my house with me fishing and each time I go I have been taking less and less gear - now I just take a backpack with the essentials, rods + rod holders in one hand and a small esky bag in the other. I recommend everyone does the same! Its a god send having less gear to cart around - especially if you have a donut day! I'll have to give the rocks at clifton a try, the wharf used to be my local (after work 2 - 3 nights a week) but after never landing anything legal there I moved on. Great spot for yakkas though!
  8. You're not alone .. I hit Wanda beach this arvo .. got there at 1.20pm, too late, missed low tide and couldn't find any beach worms. Fished the whole run in to high tide with Macs Bait shop pillies and baby squid for nothing .. ah well .. next week should be better hopefully
  9. That whiting is huugge!! Looks like Narrabeen near the pines?
  10. Thats the second monster jew from the rocks at night on a lure photo I have seen .. I thought they were timid bottom feeders that only took squid that was 45 seconds old?
  11. What length rod, size reel and size line do you have on it? Also - what do you think is wrong with your cast?
  12. Hope everyone is having a nice Valentines day! Are there any beaches in Sydney with any decent gutters worth targeting this weekend? Northern beaches or South (Cronulla, Wanda, Maroubra?) Might do an all nighter just want to give myself a good chance of a fish. I dont each fish so doesnt matter what species, prefer salmon or big tailor, flathead maybe a jew! Also, does anyone think it would be worth while having a stickied thread for spotting gutters/schools etc? I was up at the Entrance on Thursday and spotted a monster gutter on the beach, right in front of the surf club and slightly to the left, be good to post it somewhere
  13. Was trolling dead squid around Middle Ground on Monday and landed 8 under sized dollies and an undersized King. Weather was rubbish, swell was choppy - yakkas wouldnt take anything.

  15. Sorry if I am not allowed to post this ? I checked the sponsors section but could not find a charter that operates out of Jervis Bay. Can anyone point me in the direction of a fishing charter that operates out of / around Jervis Bay ? Not a very big group looking to get onto some Kings and Big Reds. Thanks in advance for any info!
