  1. That was you with the Wahoo i heard on the radio. Well don bad luck on the rest of the marlin
  2. Fire up the old girl for a troll on Saturday. Its been years since Pegasus has game fished. Dusted off all the old gear and fueled her up on Friday. Dropped the mooring about 7 and headed to e Jibbbon for lives. We couldn't find them after ten minutes and i was to excited after hearing the reports during the week the we basically put the lures in the water at Jibbon and started the troll north. I took the usual rout over Osbourn Shoal, past Merrys and headed for the Waverider of Botany and a few laps around the Botany Heads. Conditions were absolute perfect. Slight Breeze and about 1-1.5m swell. I had some friends and neighbors on board who had all was dreamnt of catching a marlin but had never been marlin fishing. After running through what to do with the rods and harness and what to expect when we get one ( i was quietly confident of getting one). After about 45m the boys were asking about my good ol days fishing, Half way through one of my Dribbling stories one of the boys spat his coffee and said the old what the fox hat. I spin around to see a free jumper stripy in 50fa of Botany. i spun the boat around and trolled the area for about 10 minutes with 0. We made the choice to keep on trolling up to the Peak and then out to the Plonk Hole and past any FADS on the way. The FADS had been smashed and noting was showing. By that stage i thing any thing that was there had been caught or frightened off to Fiji by all the boats. There was about 10 boat bottom bashing the peak and about another 15 trolling around so we moved on. Radio chatter was crazy. It sounded like a boat was hooking up every 10 minutes. There was a report of one guy who caught a 20kg Wahoo as well as lots of big Dollies coming in. Black, Stripes and even Blues were being report with allot of people reporting massive bait in areas. Not that i could find the bait. Im guessing that was on the shelf or at least wider than we were (70fa). One funny report was of someone catching a black off Broken Bay in 20m of water. One of the Boys had to be back for work by 3pm so we made the choice to come back to the 40-60 fa area to troll. The boys were enjoying the experience of marlin fishing in perfect conditions taking 15min rotation on strike. While i was killing a lamington in the cockpit i notice the rigger load up and looked back to see the hole in the water and instantly scream were on. As none of them had been marlin fishing before they spin to look at me with the look of "were on what" That when the reel started to scream and i pointed out the back to a black starting its first greyhound jumps. Didn't they start moving then. After some inexperience fumbling the spread was cleared, harness on, shouts and who oos from the jumping we settled in to the fight on 24kg. We hooked up about 2km north if the peak and ended up fairly close to the boat on the peak a hour later when we pulled it through the transom door. The dream of the boys had been realized. The chatter on the radio got a little quite around the tide change(strange) but heated back up after a while of lots of marlin being hood and caught even with double headers. Time had ticked on as we made our way back for our 3pm dead line. The troll in was uneventful. Being so hot i made the choice to stop at Jibbon for a swim which topped of a great day for the boys. The chatter in the radio reminded me of the last bumper season in El Nino of Port Stephens where kazillions of marlin were caught. They are on forshaw. Go and get em. All of the fish has been put to good use. We feed out touch footy team with one of the wives cooking up the spine for fish Broth last night for all and the frame is getting dumped of my mates wharf for burly his kids will love what hangs around if for the rest of the school holidays. Happy fishing all.
  3. I tried yesterday off the Christian camp for 0`s When heading back along speed ally someone had just pulled in a large king about 1m and was getting photos. They has smiles all round.
  4. Port defiantly comes up with some unexpected fish in it. Over the years ive seen Yellowfin (not bream) tune. Caught a cobia last year Massive seal snoring at my mates pontoon. Funny as hell. It lifted its head out of the water while upside down then blow bubbles on the exhale. Reef sharks. Hammer head. Massive cuttlefish. Love the port, nice an clean water.
  5. Bluetooth transducer. You only buy the transducer and then have to pay to download the app. Saves ahell of alot of money sitting in the dashboard. Just suction cup the tab to the dash and youla. Two tabs to the dash one with the sounder app the other with navionics. Then my mates that get onboard for a days fishing download the app (and pay for it) and suctioncup their tab to the downstair window and they see the same thins im seeing. IM RICH. IM RICH. iM RICH. Thought long and hard about. researched it on the net. there is already one for ice fishing. DAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Keep thinking.
  6. Yep They wernt sure weather it was a big eye or bluefin. The bets were on big eye as the water was to hot. I think the short measuremant was 1.3m not sure of the weight. Thay were late into the weighstation. Cant recall the name of the boat but they will take out other gamefish foshow. Perfect day out for a tourni. Not to much caught only a few small marlin tagged as well as sharks. Plenty of bait. Stripped tuna.
  7. Im heading to townsville for easter. Does anyone know of charters for barra. Im only after a half day just to show my 6 year old crocks, catching prawns and barra. OH and some fun for me to.
  8. Ok Ive been around boats since I was 10 (now 39). Seen a lot and done a lot. Start with my first stupid thing. Had a Sea Al Super Skua with a 40 hp( yes crazy for a 13 year old) but I could drive it. Was better with the weight on the back. Brother and I in a hurry to launch. Brother: ok unstrap it sit on the front and ill jump on the skids and you can slid off in to the water. Me: no worries sound good. I didnt think he was going to do 30km backwards. Now I was about 15 and weighed about 45-50kg ringing wet (which I ended up) He jumped on the skids and off i slid with me on the front seat, the pressure wave came over the back and sink it on the spot, not even 1m from the trailer. There was the boat sitting on the bottom at the back of the trailer me on the front seat. Little did we know a friend was on the wharf and watched the whole thing unfold. He had the slow claps going as did everyone else on the wharf. Unfazed I got out and pulled the which out and straight back on to the trailer, plugs out, WD40 and fire her up. Off we went a little slower into the water this time. Another cracker. We left the RMYC Port hacking late one Friday night. 38footer this time. Chugged out into the middle of the bay aimed for the channel and kept idling chugging/chatting/chugging/chatting/chugging/chatting/chugging/chatting. Wasnt till someone in the cockpit started yelling where u going. As I got lost in the bulls@#$t I was talking I forgot that I was driving or wasn’t driving. Straight into a the coastguard boat ramp. Made a mess of one of the props. Friend Rafted up in southwest arm with about 4-5 boats. All 30+ft. Come the morning he had to get back to work. Un-tied the other boats and put the pins down. STILL ATTACHED TO THE MORING THROUG THE BOW STRIP. Down went the front and around she come. Dazed and confused he looked back at the other boats with a dozen people laughing. What are you guys laughing at. Im tied up still, you guys are drifting. Another friend. A member here. Cursing along during the night a 23footer with a leg. Got the markers mixed up and straight onto a very shallow sand bar. Tore the whole leg off. He jumped in and pick up the leg in less than knee deep water. Friend Was moored and a flash caught his eye in the rear lights at night and after a few he wasn’t quite sure what he saw. Says to his girlfriend, think I just saw so&so cruse past in the nude.(he had a putter that was tiller steer but the tiller was on the floor and you used your feet) It looked as if he was just standing in the nude chugging along. 5 Min later said friend pulls up in the putter clothed. Friend 1 says I know ive had a few but did I just see you cruse past in the nude. YEP says friend 2. It was raining when I left and I only have one set of cloths, so I put them up the front to keep dry. Me Tied up at the RMYC at Broken Bay after fishing the comp. Had more than enough at the club and thought is was time for shut eye. We were tied to another boat and on my way over the gunnel which my foot clipped/tripped/stagger trip over the gamechair, splat. Face first in the cockpit of my boat. Lucky I have a nose as it broke my fall and nearly my nose. Blood everywhere. I can keep going but ill keep some for later.
  9. Just wondering if you lose car licence if you get done on the water. Not that i have been done, just wonering. Since Aust day when some clowns played up at Jibbon in the Port Hacking the cops have benn on patrol. Several weeks ago they were even filming RBT getting evry boat headinig towards Yowie Bay coming out of the Christian camp chanel. I think it will be on tv in the next couple of weeks. Dont know how many they got, but its a warning to all boaters. I know in QLD you dont lose your car licence, dut is it the same here
  10. Last weekend I stayed up the arm on Saturday night. Getting there at about 5ish and tying up I turned the engines of to see three guys in a tinny about 50 foot of the stern hooked up hard. 5min late a king of about 70cm is in the net and we all cheered them on. Now the water was chocolate brown from the rain, but the bait was on FIRE. As they were fighting I noticed fresh pillies about 4-5inches long on the other rods in the rod holders. 10 min later they were on to another king about 50 cm this time. I was watching what they were up to. They had a electric motor mounted to a piece of timber g clamped to the bow rail got trolling. They had caught fresh pillies which was the bait that was busting up behind us in bait jigs. These were lip hooked and slow trolled back through the bait bust ups. Another 10-15 min later massive hookup. The result was a king of about 1m. Not bad for about 1 hour fishing. I was keen to get into them but everything I had was no match for the pillies. The three boys with beers in hand let all of them go. I just sat back and watched it all unfold and it was awesome to see and just of the back of the boat. Everyone was into me to get out there but I didn’t have a bait jig (Homer Simpson “DO”). I went to the grogery a little later in yowie bay and the frigret mackerel we going berserk around the Christian camp. The hacking is on fire with the fresh/chocolate water. I thought that the water would turn the fish off. Man I was horribly wrong. the secret is the fresh pillies. Sorry no pics
  11. I want to update the interior of my boat and cover some of the timber with foam backed vinyl. Does anybody know where to get it from and how much?????
  12. I found these online for $39 including postage. It took 2.5 weeks to get them. You know when you buy something on there you kinda think it may turn out pretty crappy. Especially when its coming from china. For that price i thought ill give it a go. Come with a remote control and they are waterproof. 150 LED`s for 5 meters. Not to sure if they were going to be bright enough. I had to buy the little jack plug for it and voula Each LED has red/green/blue in it so they can do any light colour. The remote gas a red/green/blue and white button along the top. Then there is flash and fade buttons. They work great and are plenty bright. There is also a 300 per 5m which would be even brighter. I just urethained them under the gunwels. I have a set coming for a friend but are a little different. They are 10m long but the internal white strip with the LED on it are encased in a soft resin, still waterproof and have 3m doublesited tape on them. Ill see what they are like.
  13. I got some rods at last years boat show. They sat there for ages untill i brought a 80cm panel tv. I had some alloy angle and with a lot of heat and 2 bottles of butane ( oxy small tip would of works way faster) its hanging on the wall in a nice shiny alloy bracket. I used the old tube tv bracket that is on the wallwith the alloy part on the tv. We move the bed around in the room so i can rotate the TV about 120deg`s.
  14. Use a syringe to mix the resin and remember how hot the ambient temp is, it all makes a difference when mixing. Not enough hardener and it doesn’t go off or to much on a hot day it’ll go off way to fast. I used a 2 litre milk container with the top/front cut out and left the handle and also mixed it with a cordless drill and a bent coat hanger
  15. That’s typical of yachties.
