the previews showed the cooks river ramp, a few of the moored boats and a trailer boat, and a couple of interviews with a few people. i didnt get the gist of the story from the preview and missed the full story that was supposedly aired last night 21/03 on ch7 news sydney. did anyone happen to see it? thx.

do mercs need a special fitting for the grease nipples? using the standard fitting that came with the gun i tried to lube the nipples today but the grease just oozed out the sides. it was quite a loose fit over the nipple and didnt seem to depress the centre valve opening. can someone please set me straight. thx.

i used to find the same prob at rose bay alot - have given up using that ramp these days.

visual inspection under the cowl showed nothing out of the ordinary. there are spits of black and silver on the underside of the stator but only on the side of the starter - i assume its paint from the underside of the flywheel and tiny filings from the flywheel/starter pinion. gear oil looks normal. kicked it over to try remind myself of the noise - 10 mins at idle (F/N/R) and the noise didnt seem to cut in at any time, and could only hear carby induction drone. im tempted to take it out for another run........

sounds like its beyond my mechanical capabilities. huey would be first port of call but for the distance - im near the airport and theres very few reputable service centres around here. hmm what to do.

hi dunc, its a 2006 model, with under ~100 hours. missed out on the 5yr warranty by 3 months. how difficult is taking the flywheel off? are special tools needed? thx.

i noticed this on the last trip out, a highish pitch intermittent whining/scraping noise coming from the motor. it happens whether in gear or neutral and at various throttle applications, and cuts in and out randomly. any ideas where to start looking for the prob? i was thinking that it may be coming from under the flywheel and have sprayed some inox into that area as a first measure. its a merc 40hp us built 2 stroke. thanks.

ive never found mol pt a good spot during large swells. although that could be put down to the head/stomach feeling of the fisherman.

if its reliable then why change at all?

the arse looks a little white, might need to get her out onto the water a bit more and give her a nice tan.

hi jim, i fished the bay yesterday too, without the same success, plenty of 25-27cm bream which were thrown back. also found plenty of tiny reds taking all my nippers and noticed some unusual currents around where the dredge pipe is currently floating. im with you i think the dredging has changed the dynamics of the bay recently.

i found it dead at towra yesterday too during the run in. ended up finding some fish in the deeper water off the runways.
