  1. Hi Fellow Raiders, This is not a fishing report, more of a how is the fishing in Sydney Harbour at the moment? As i am planning on going out Sat morning to the Heads to try and pick up some Kingies, just wondering if anyone has any advise or tips... I usually get some live yakka's around Clifton Gardens or around Quarentine Bay area. Anyone know if these areas are still active with good size yakka's? Anywho any advise would be greatly appriciated Thanks HC
  2. With mine i used paint stripper first and then these 'Blue' nylon angle grinder pads from bunnings abt $10 each and just grinded the whole boat down to bare metal. ive posted some photos of after the applying the paint stripper and gurneying it and then after using blue pads. Now in the process of getting some repair welds and then Paint and refit just in time for summer season. Good luck mate..
  3. Hi Fellow FR. Since we are now in the colder months, My mates and i have embarked on cleaning up our old 4.3mtr Quinny Fishabout. Aka (snowflake) How did she get her name you ask.... Well due to her unsightly paint-job (done by the previous owner, with House paint i suspect) Our days on the water would make Captain Planet cry... as she left a trail of white flakes everywhere she went, in the water, out of the water, on the highway, in my driveway ... hahah basically she never wanted to get lost. As to become more 'GREEN' and to avoid funny looks at the boat ramp or by the Maritine Police.. (Maritime refered to her as an Oldie but a goodie) We have now started a strip down re-build on her. Here are some photos of our progress
  4. Haha... My boat looks very similar! (Previous owner painted with housepaint) The paint kept flaking off in the water so we named her Snowflake looks like ur's is Showflakes younger sister! lol Well my gal is getting a overhaul in the winter months so by next summer she will be looking good as new I would agree with the others, run out the the marine shop and get a new Bung set, Silcone and Stainless steel screws Good luck buddy

  7. Hi, Me and my friends are in the process of rebuilding a old Quintrex Fishabout MK2. So far we have stripped her down back to bare metal, in doing that we uncovered some cracks and modifications that need to be done. i was wondering if anyone knows where i can get some welding done (on the cheap... LOL) I am in Sydney South (Kogarah) area... Any Help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks LGF
  8. Hi Fellow Raiders, Headed out to North Head on Sun to chase those pretty Yellowtailed beauties. After seeing my brother (Aka Harbour Hoodlum) and Mate (S.F.M) both pulling in there first Kingie this Season i didn't want to be left on the outta... (plus i didn't want to be mocked for the entire year whilst we waited for them to come back... hehehe ) We started at a leisurely 5am and gun-ho'ed our way thru middle harbour off to get some Livies at our normal haunt... (our usual routine) Arrived at prob 6am and out went the burley and down when the Livies rigs... waiting waiting waiting! NOTHING (Ohhh nooo i though my 1hr extra sleep and ruined my chances.... ) BUGGAR BUGGAR BUGGAR i was thinking, but as we were determined to get some livies we headed to another spot we tried in the past woohoo success! Headed out to North head, dropped anchor and out the livies and waited.... and waited. Finally after weeks and weeks of trying.... my Setup start going nuts and is peeling line like no tomorrow i reach over grab the rod and strike... WOOHOO im ON!!! After fighing with it for 5-10min with some cracking runs and headshakes we net it and into the boat, I think to myself WOOHOO i have now joined the Kingie Clan and experience first hand how these beautys fight! After some Hi-Fives and Hell-Yahhhh's all round, a quick measurement (Damm only 63cm) and a photo opp the RAT is released to fight another day! A little later my little setup goes nuts again, but this time its a salmon, reel it in close to the boat were it jumps out and does a little dance... Buggar it spits the hook as it gets closer to the boat... Booo But At this point i don't care as i finally can say i caught a Kingiee. Fished on till about lunch for not a lot and Headed home with a big SMILE on my dial. Can't wait to get out there again this weekend to see if i can find it Relos hanging around...
  9. HAHAHAHA... Nice one! AsIf i casted too your spot!!!! Lets get one thing STRAIGHT here the catch of the day was really my 'Triple-threat hookup' yakka, the kingie didn't even compare to the fight those angry yakkas gave me! Persistance PLZ, this was his first trip this season... i have been out pratically every-weekend and still haven't caught my First King or 'Adult' Snapper! GRRHHhh Ohhh well, all in all had a great day... lets hope this session makes u put down the Golf clubs and pick up the fishing rods again!
  10. 1980's Qunny Fishabout (aka: the Snowflake) with 40Hp 2-stroke mariner.. Tow vehicle is 2008 Pug 308 hatch...
  11. Hi Fellow raiders, Just a quick question, has anyone had any experiences with sandblasting an old Alum hull? Im just wondering if it can be done and a rough cost involved with doing this... i have an 4.3mtr 80' Quinny requiring a makeover so as a Winter project was thinking of giving the old gal a strip down, respray! Any advise for stripping and repainting an aluminium boat would be appriciated. Thanks HC
  12. Hey All, Fished Syd harbour on Sunday Morning, Hunting those legendary Syd Harbour Kingies. Spend all day floating around the harbour for a mixed bag, lost 1 good hook-up and 1 fish pulled the hook on the surface, but no Kings!. We did manage: 51cm Bonnie 26cm Bream some rock species Watched a nosey little 30cm King inspect my bait as i was reeling in... All in all a good day out in the harbour, I just don't understand thou, being the owner of the boat and my 2 mates both have caught kings on it (when i wasn't there) and me yet to have my first hook up. I'm starting to think im bad luck or the kings just don't like me! Ohh well im determined to catch one this season... HC
  13. Thanks All, that's sounding very good out there... Can't wait to get off work and wet my line! Just hope the weather holds up!
  14. Hi Fellow Raiders, Not so much a fishing report, but more so a request for advise... Just wonder if anyone has had any luck on the Harbour lately? Im planning on heading out this weekend with my boat (4.3 Mtr Quinnie with 40Hp Mariner 2-stroke) and trying my luck at 'Old mans Hat' or 'pig and sow reef' I know it is usually a good spot in Summer, but as a spring destination is it any good? Please help some young grasshoppers, learning the ways of the harbour... LGF
  15. What a Beaut... Nice Kingies! Ran into Greg at the Ramp, thanks for the tips on catching them... I hope one day i can nab me one of these soon, well that's if i can get outta bed that early first. Cheers mate LGF
