  1. Hey mate there is some great advice here I'd just like to reiterate the point on getting the poppers to track straight really improves it's action. I have found using 10-15 pounds fluro carbon is best but only have about 2 foot of it and sometimes the smaler the popper the better. Goodluck

  5. Climate change 'could enrage sharks' Warmer ocean temperatures caused by global warming could cause sharks and other fish to become more aggressive, according to a new Australian study. Research conducted by the University of New South Wales found that a slight lift in water temperatures — just two or three degrees — can cause some fish to become up to 30 times more aggressive than they normally would be. The studies were conducted on young damsel fish, but head researcher Dr Peter Biro told ninemsn "he would be surprised" if sharks did not also undergo a similar transformation in warm water. "I would imagine it ought to affect sharks ... We think it is linked to the metabolism of the fishes — it increases their need to feed," Dr Biro said. The research involved putting the damsel fish in varying temperatures of water and placing other fish behind glass to see how they reacted. Dr Biro said it was "obvious" the warmer water had an effect. "Some fish would literally charge at the glass," he said. "I'm quite confident that if the glass was not there they would have torn the other fish to shreds." He predicted the increased aggression caused by climate change would cause some fish populations to dwindle, but it would eventually correct itself. "I think in the short term we might see some effects," he said. "But I think the animals will adapt, they won't all kill each other." The test also exposed previously unknown behavioural traits that exist among the damsel fish species. While some fish showed extreme aggressive reaction to the warm water, others did not react at all. The majority of the fish tested appeared to be at least twice as aggressive in the warm water.
  6. thanks for the advice gives me more to think about. approx how long is a fiberglass hulls life expectancy? Thanks Again Deano
  7. hi Raiders i was thinking of buying: boat is a savage avenger with a 75 hp mercury 1986 motor which was rebuilt last year also re cond gear box all is going very well. top speed gets up around 46 MPH(74KPH) & gets there very fast, great for skiing or pulling a tube starts first go It has been fitted with ski pole, new gauges, lights, bilge pump, compos, submersible LED lights on trailer work great & new front windscreen on boat. Plus many extras only thing needs a new seat & a polish. i will be transforming it into a fishing boat, it looks in good cond the trailer looks good and there is no rot in the boat, i love the oldschool look it has and was thinking of doing some work to it like a paint job and installing fishing gadgets (fishfinder, live well, rod holders) and new carpet and some nice swivel seats (currently it has one bench seat that is not visually appealing) the price is set at 3k, and i am getting it from a family friend because they are upgrading. what do you raiders think? at 3k good value or a bit pricey? it has potential? does anyone own a savage avenger what do they think of the boat in general? im a bit hesitant to buy a boat older than i am but at the same time love the oldschool factor. Thanks in Advance Deano
  8. id say like greg suggested lures is a good idea they are always "fresh". or what i do is dedicate 1 session to bait fishing and throw it in the freezer for the next couple of weeks to a month. its true that live is better but if you catch your bait and freeze it you will be fishing with a much better bait than you will buy at any servo. i also find that it takes max 30mins to get a nice collection of nippers if you find good nipper ground and if you berly well in the right places yakkas will be everywhere and again it only takes 30mins to get a nice stash but if this fails you always have you frozen stash to fall back on. hope that made sense. Cheers Deano
  9. well done on the jew atleast now you know where and how to catch them so its just a matter of time before you land a monster. cheers Deano
  10. i use bread crumbs with fish oil and throw in some pellets (bought berly) soaked in fish oil. its really simple but very effective. i also save up all the old bait in the frezzer and once i get a nice collection i throw all the old bait into an old blender and make a nice bait mash. i thinks its good to use a bit of what your using for bait in the berly but i dont think it makes all that much difference. Cheers Deano
  11. at my spot for poddys if you berley some bread they go nuts. they would be easy to catch on hooks but i use a trap with bread and usually bag out after checking the trap twice. but i cant seem to keep them alive for very long and have only caught flatties on them but thats what we were targeting im sure a change of spot and or tactics would see other species take them. Cheers Deano
