  1. My number must have been recycled, as I get calls asking for some guy named Mr Salmon, I get a few calls a week. When they try to sell me something or blab on I play tricks on them, like put the phone to the speakers on the TV or radio and every 5 seconds say "yeah ok" then back to the TV, or even offer to sell them my car (they can try sell me stuff I don't want, so I'll offer them stuff that they don't want), or any stupid stuff I can think of on the spot. Pretending to interested, and then saying "hello... hello... then hanging up is a favourite of mine I'm not going to get my self frustrated, so I make it amusing. Try changing your voice to an 80 year old asian lady next time they call and have a laugh.
  2. Good luck with the move mate, I wish you and your family a safe trip.
  3. Nick, I knew it was big when it stripped line, but then it surfaced, I knew it was a PB. It would have burnt losing it at the boat
  4. Good fish mate, Cod runs in the blood!
  5. Great catch mate, well done!
  6. Chippo and surrounds do offer some good fishing on it's day, and I think it's fair to say that over time the fishing will improve. I fish the place often, and I'll PM you if I hear of a good Bass or Jew bite.
  7. It was nice to meet you and Paul. Shame the fishing wasn't red hot, I suspected it wouldn't be, but at least you got what you came for... a solid Bass @ 380 to the fork. Sadly, Che and I got a Krispy Kreme, but that's fishing, and we still had fun. Look forward to doing it again someday.
  8. It's been a tough month, good to see you get a few, Happy Easter
  9. Hahaha I took the bait hook line and sinker

    Fish Age

Don't think with help with your question, but I read a study once that a Bream of 48cm was found to be 27 years old
  12. If you go for a run to the front of the Novatel in Brighton Le Sands, cast towards the shore, and have your bait or lure land right on the drop off, about 15-20m from the shoreline, you'll get heaps of flattys there. It was my go to spot about 10 years ago, and about a month ago I had a quick flick there and got three or four in about 15 minutes.

    Braid or Mono?

Braid Pros: no stretch, thin diameter relative to breaking strain, no memory in the line, angler feels the smallest of hit due to the no stretch, casts better with less weight Cons: more expensive, less abrasion resistance, probably less durable. Mono Pros: Cheap, the stretch acts as a shock absorber (great for a jumping marlin, not so good for a hoodlum running for the reef). Cons: doesn't cast as well with light weight lures. These are just some things that come to mind.

That there my friend is a proper drink. I've been to the factory in Scotland. Do not dare contaminate that with Coke. I once dropped a bottle on my driveway.... brings a tear to my eye just thinking about it. Cheers
  15. You'll hate the Georges river, too many Bull sharks, submerged logs, pollution, authorities giving you a hard time... Wisemans is the go

    Vibrio vulnificus

Did anyone see that report on Today Tonight? A bacteria found in Salt/brackish water that can lead to amputation or even death. With thousands of people swimming and surfing, it must be rare. poor bloke on tv caught it launching his boat, and lost his leg 13 days ago.
  17. My experience: Caught three Soapies between 40-45cm in 10 minutes, released them all where they were caught. Pulled the hook on a 10kg+ Jew one cold winters morning (after getting on the water on my own at 3am, and nearly freezing to death laying on the floor of my boat in the foetal position, another story for another day) couldn't get another hit there to saving my life, I must have worked that spot for an hour. I think Bass are just too aggressive and instinctively must hit a lure, I release all Bass, and if they're there they hit. Bream can be finicky, I've got some spots in the Hawkesbury that are one fish spots, creep up and score one, and move on. Found a school of EP the other day, nailed two, and they shut down. We release Yella, shut them down, come back in 30 minutes and get another one, we once tested out how many could fit in my live bait tank, and got 6 in there from the same "honey hole" maybe not releasing them straight away kept the bite going. Interesting topic.
  18. Great day out, loads of fun, love rare fish like that flatty.
  19. Well done mate, we had our first 6 months ago, and it's a very special time.

    Mono Line Woes

I used to use Uni's all the time, I like a clinch, they both retain about 90% breaking strain. One knot that retains 100% breaking strain (actually increases) is the chain knot, but large profile may not suit finesse lures, great for big kings though. Simply knot, 10-15 alternating half hitches, it creates a spring like effect under load. I've tested it by tying up to the light pole out the front of my place, and walking back with a locked and thumbed drag, it snaped the leader in half, the mid knot and the chain knot retained 100%

    Mono Line Woes

I use an improved clinch with the line through the hook eye twice. Top knot.
  22. That's right. She was very fun to catch. Yep day trip to Burrinjuck Easter weekend, target species Cod. Hopefully conditions have improved
