  1. Hi Raiders, Just a heads up, my friend has been informed that there is going to be a free lure with every Sunday Telegraph this coming sunday (5th Sept 2010), whilst stocks last of course. So grab them early as it usually runs out. There are 3 different lures. Here is a pic of one of them. #3 Cheers Daid

    Crab Trap Laws

According to the manual anyone under the age of 18 are exempt from a license. They can do everything as a licensed person can do as long as they follow the rules. PDF page 5. http://www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/__data/assets/pd...water-guide.pdf So they can have their own crab trap so I would think.
  3. Sorry about the noise guys, Hand Held Lines = Holding onto a rod/reel with a line. So you can fish there. No pots/nets other methods. The document is referencing the legislation, Fisheries Management (General) Regulation 2002 (NSW) Schedule 2. http://www.legislation.nsw.gov.au/fragview....2+0+N?tocnav=y
  4. I hope you guys know there is a fishing closure of the cooks river http://www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/fisheries/info/c...dcr5/botany-bay The whole of the waters of the Cooks River, its creeks and tributaries, upwards to its source from its junction with Botany Bay. Any species of fish. Methods of fishing prohibited Any method, other than the following: * a hand held line, * a landing net. All year. Agree with stoney, Oatley would be good.
  5. Does anyone know the proper name for the "doctor" parasite?

    1 Fish + 1 Shark

Thanks for all the input. And all this time I thought the top one was a Gemfish I fried it up, tasted pretty good =) Just caught another one the other night. Its always the odd pike, just get 1. Thought it was a wobby when my mate dragged it in, since it was protected we threw it back.

    1 Fish + 1 Shark

Not sure if its a Pike? Gemfish? What shark is this? Caught off the beach
  8. Here is something for your brain to chew on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tide#Timing The tides time keeps changing due the moons oscillating orbit. The article explains it in more depth. Cheers
  9. Hey Bangus and Jr, Good to meet you up there, great catch! After you guys left, it got pretty choppy and very quiet. No one seemed to catch anything until it got dark. My uncle managed to get 1 decent size Tailor about 38cm and 2 Yellow tail before it got a little too wet and headed home. Cheers

    Parra River

What an amazing catch! I wish i could atleast catch something in the harbour =) This topic has been bugging me for a while, esp Chipping Norton and Parra River. For more information http://www.foodauthority.nsw.gov.au/consum...arbour-seafood/ It has a table of recommended intake for east of the bridge, anything west of the Harbour bridge should not be eaten. I wish this would be a sticky to let raiders know what they should / should not eat. Regards
  11. Thanks for all the tips, I'll give it a try next time. It would of been a massive sting ray, it wouldn't budge for over 10 minutes, but would run the moment I loosened the drag. I did manage to wind it in once a few turns, then it started running again. And Merry Christmas, hope you had a good one.
  12. Hi, I recently had a really big hookup whilst fishing along the beach. And unfortunately it got away , I had a 3/0 3 ganged hook and it bent my first hook. I had thought my line snapped. 13 foot beach rod 30lb mono line I was fishing the beach, about to leave, then I felt a weight on the line. Wow, great a Aus Salmon i thought, then it keep pulling the line... more and more... I turn up the drag.. But it was too heavy to reel in. If I loosen the drag it will keep running... What does one do in these situations? Do I turn up the drag so it doesn't run and wait until he tires? Give enough drag to let it slowly run? Or let it run freely? My setup usually overpowers Aus Salmon and Tailors i get, but I've never had to deal with something this massive before. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
  13. You know if there's a size limit? Might take some home next time to see what it tastes like.
  14. Fished the rocks with the around Wollongong at 5:30PM, sprinkling every so often. Had two rods out, 1 with a squid jig (still haven't managed to catch one), the other with a 3/0 Hook with pillies. Started off with an undersized Trevally (20cm), then these fishes started appearing All pretty small (about 10cm) and all went back, anyone know what it is? Surprised they managed to get the 3/0 hook in their mouths. Had one big fish which i lost at the bottom of the rocks before i could pull it up. Silver looking Started to rain and headed off home. Cheers
  15. The thing was we were using a big star sinker, 2nd largest and it was still moving. Thanks Mondo, I might give the Paternoster rig a go next time, I was using the star sinker on a running line. Never actually tried the Paternoster before.
