  1. I think it's probably due to obstruction by the lip grip
  2. The two most common situations I've taken them are either on the drop or when the bait has reached bottom and starting to drift with the current. This fella was when the drift started....
  3. G'day guys, Pretty windy on Sat but still decided to head out for a fish. So, 3 inflatables headed out from Greenwich to fish the surrounding bays...the current was pretty erratic....one moment this way and then the other. The fish only got more active for a short window when the wind momentarily weakened and the fish gods smiled for a second as my pillie cube was taken. The fish didn't go very hard, with only 2 short drag-taking bursts....i knew it'd be legal cos it felt heavier than them pesky pinkies . It was quite a sight as it broke the water....it measured 47cm, a PB for me....
  4. Seems like you gentlemen hv cracked the code!! Those are some beaut kings!
  5. G'day Sarge, they were taken in abt 1m of water. I prefer to fish as light as possible to keep line disturbance to the water to a minimum....maybe the fish don't care, but just being careful . That being said, I hv caught a 35er on a 7wt before, cos the wind was pretty mean that day.... Lizards tend to be more greedy and will pounce on most flies fished close to the bottom. Caught alot of em on both 7 and 8 wt.
  6. Very good results on the SP mate! All gd fish, esp the PB EP
  7. I'm using a #4 and a #6 (weight) at the moment but am using the #4 with a floating line most of the time... Tks mate! Just happy them fishies are not fussy Do give it a go! I can assure you it's worth it
  8. A pinkie just 1cm shy of legal on a HB A greedy lizard that took a liking for a yellow & white clouser A legal whiting on a micro charlie They sure like the micro charlie A legal tailor on a metal slice 2 Brembos with a taste for an old school berkley 2inch pumpkinseed grub The micro charlie strikes again
  9. That is one beaut of a bream... hitting it on SP makes it all the more satisfying
  10. The same way I get them out of breams.... but 10 times slower Got bitten by a Mangrove Jack before.... not very fun... All: Glad u liked the pics. MrsSwordie: Batam Island.
  11. G'day guys, went for a short getaway at Indo with the parents and also in search of any critters willing to take a fly or SPs... After dinner saw me strolling along a man-made lagoon. Was told that there were some Tuskfish in there and I was there the next morning at 5 to chuck some baited breaths... In an hour or so (before I was told that fishing was not allowed in the lagoon), I brought up a couple of new species on fly (for me ) Spangled Emperor Fingermark Snapper And my biggest Crescent Perch to date As it got brighter, I 'hid' myself at a corner of the lagoon to cast some SPs... to my surprise, there were some other critters inside.... I hooked a small spangled emperor and what was about 8 to 10 cods came dashing out of their lair hoping to catch an easy breakfast... on the next cast, just as I closed the bail arm, the pumpkinseed bass minnow was whacked, the line was taken so fast that it snapped (i was using my bream gear ) Rigged up with new leader and all, and up came yet a few more new species for me on SP... Cods Coral Trout Black Spotted Tuskfish Another Tuskfish (Dont know its real name) The next morning saw me there with the fly rod (with special permission to fish)... but only the cods were keen to play... landed 3 of em... All in all, a pretty enjoyable trip, giving me some consolation for missing the kingie run in Sydney...
  12. How low is low? You can get those made by Shakes.peare for less than a 100 bucks, but will most definitely be looking for something else pretty soon. Like many say, get the best rod you can afford. At a recent sale there were Innovators going for 150 (RRP 300-399). I think they offer tremendous value for that price. Some other rods that you might want to check out are: Winston Ascent, Sage Fli, TFO & Redington CPS.
