the haven produces squid mate, either side. ive seen some massive inkers caught there.

that flock of sheerwater was massive. i was drumming between n.a n tez n seen them fly past...must have been a km long. nice fish there ray.

probs salmon. so frustrating when they school just out of casting distance or when u only have blackfish gear

try using white plastics. they resemble bait fish, squid etc etc etc, and i think white is the best colour for kings.

haha, thats too funny. Right of passage jumping in there, jumping of muggs, doing the washing machine (before too many people did it n killed all the weed). I used to live on 22 acres in avoca, up townsend avenue (next to the bowlo). Good times. I had a friend who had to get rescued by the westpac chopper where the photo was taken, jumped in when the swell was big n couldnt get out.

what time yesterday? did u see the whales go past at around 6pm? soooo awesome. i was under the skillion at terrigal spinning n they were 50 metres of the point, absolutely amazing.

that would be bird sh#t island. walk around the rocks maybe 600m n there it is. Not a heap of fish in there, mainly pesty angel fish, but u get drummer, bream etc. we used to jump in n swim across there as kids, n the rumours were that sharks used to breed in channel bit n try to get you, lol.

rock fishing is pretty much summed up in "there are old rock fisherman and there are bold rock fisherman. but there are no old, bold rock fisherman". Honestly, if u have never rock fished before, why drive to avoca to try it out? Try a spot closer to your location and see if its for you..u will lose tackle, and even possibly all your gear when rock fishing, seen it happen plenty of times before. Be prepared to lose fish as line n rocks dont mix, rock boots are essential, never fish alone. Make sure u can swim (sounds stupid but suprisingly alot of rock fisherman cant swim) and always keep one eye on the ocean for incoming sets etc. Avoca isnt more dangerous than any other exposed rock ledge. Uve just gotta use common and acquired sense.

the primary differences between the sol and the heartland is its ball bearings. the heartland has one more ceramic coated ball bearing than the sol, meaning its more tolerant of salt water. I would go the sol though..i think its a much more attractive reel, but thats my opinion.. If its for fishing off rocks etc and is probs going to get wet, go the heartland. also, a 2500 will land kings up to 80cm n easy on bonnies n stripeys etc. are u land based or boat?

mate u will get them off practically any beach with good gutters or off most rock fishing spots. they respond well to lures and bait, so its up to you. But any beach from killcare to nth entrance or beyond will hold salmon, they key is to locate good gutters

weight is important for beach rods. you spend alot of time holding your rod when beach fishing (with or without a holder) so make sure ur combo isnt too heavy. Nitro make gun beach rods. if ur after large jew n sharks go the messiah, but if just salmon n tailor its overkill. are u looking at threadline or an alvey?

is that an exceller? their great lil reels, super smooth.. some good LB flatties there.

noise travels through water quite clearly, so its understandable that fish would get spooked. But why would music playing (constant steady rhythm) scare fish more than boats speeding past or other aquatic noises? i think short sharp noises such as knife drops and stomping around on a thin aluminum floor would definitely make fish move on though.

havent fished IN booker bay, but i would assume flatties, bream, whiting maybe the odd jewie. all available l/b.

avoca is where high speed spinning of the rocks started... alot of fishing history. imagine the fish u would get off the rocks back then.

leaving the plastic on makes the cork "rot" and breakaway easier. if water gets under the plastic, it cant dry and your cork is ggooone. best to take it off.

this is why i think its important to stay in shape.. fishing is quite physically intensive, so looking after yourself can only help. Also, if its a torn rotator cuff, u'll know about it..... i used to be a very serious gym junkie, and ive had my fair share of shoulder injuries... u cant even lift your arm with a TRC. cheers
