  1. I bought 2 and 4lb mojiko braid really cheap at a boxing day sale 2 and a half years ago. Still have it spooled on one of my favourite reels and have had a lot of use from it casting plastics and small metals. Knots hold up really well. I've caught some big salmon and bonitos with it. Only had wind knots once or twice. It loses it's colour pretty quick. Apart from that i think it is a great braid fior he price I paid.
  2. how was the water? was it muddy?
  3. funny report. better luck next time.
  4. there is a video called "A day on the Bay". it is like a cook's guide to botany bay showing all the famous places. he is in a boat though so its not exactly what you are after but you could see which spots are accessible from land. there are some ok spots near the mouth of cook's river if you like to catch bream whiting and flathead. just fish off the rocks either side of the opening. good luck.
  5. Its been a long time between reports but i thought i'd post this as i have been hitting the water a bit more frequently lately and am keen to get stuck into middle harbour this summer. i met a friend at roseville ramp yesterday morning and headed out for a pre-dawn jew session which has worked in the past landbased. we had a lot of trouble staying in position due to the wind constantly changing directions. it felt like the peak time for a jew bite was wasted repositioning the boat at least three or four times. No success there so we cut our losses and started thinking about our backup plan. Just as we were ready to move my friend noticed some surface bust ups which fortunately were heading our way. She threw a plastic towards the activity and came up tight on a bonito. i quickly grabbed my rod set up with a 4 inch drop bear plastic and chucked it in as i saw a few other trailing bonnies. it was an awesome sight to see the plastic get smashed. We had a double hook up and both bonnies were boated. The early morning rowers had a bit of a surprise hearing two girls cheering and acting like hooligans as the fish hooked up. We then went to the heads for a flick and caught another bonnie and salmon. I lost another salmon due to pulled hooks on a small metal pilchard i recently rigged with chemically sharpened trebles. Finished up with a bait session at dobroyd for a tailor, some nice trevally, jackets and big sweep. We didn't get the jewies we were after but were happy to land a few consolation prizes. Back at the ramp we cleaned our fish as my roomy hates it when i leave fish guts in the bin and stains around the sink. I noticed the water from the taps was very discoloured. Does anyone know where this water comes from? Is it fresh water or salt? jewgal ps: would love to get stuck into those middle harbour kings.. I saw a couple of guys at seaforth bluff in a tinnie... not sure if that was you dan and greg. it looked like they were fishing heavy rigs.
  6. where do you get the ET tablets from?
  7. if you look at the senate tally in nsw atm the fishing and shooting party is ranked 4th after the big three. great to see fisho's making a statement.
  8. well done. i noticed you mentioned you were using a v system reel. how are they? i'm looking at getting one. sounds good on paper but not sure how it would stand up next to the daiwas and shimanos.
  9. ? it's a bit hard to take a photo of myself. here's a pic of the tasty morsels sitting in my freezer now. i even dated it. yeah i was landbased. I can't believe how many replies there were. great site isn't it? cheers, brenda.
  10. thanks for all the replies guys and girls. As I sit here listening to the rain it looks like i was lucky to pick monday night instead of any other this week. The weather has been TERRIBLE. i ate the first fillet yesterday and it tasted great. what is the go with dioxin in Sydney harbour? is it in jewies? i tried to look it up on fisheries but couldn't find it? cheers.
  11. yes. small one: 59cm and 1.1kg bigger one: 71cm and 3kg. they were caught about one hour after sunset yesterday. i'm not sure what the tides were but i think it was close to high.
  12. Talk about beginner's luck. i read about people fishing for over a year without success chasing these beauties, but with the help of fellow raiders i tried a suggested spot in the main harbour (landbased) and scored these two jewies. i caught the small one first and was totally ecstatic. i learned by reading posts on this site that they often swim in schools so i quickly threw out another bait (the squid i caught and posted about two weeks ago) and caught the bigger one. i couldn't beleive my eyes when i saw both of them on the rock in front of me. thanks to all the raiders who replied to my previous post and sent me pm's. i wouldn't have even had a chance scoring these two without your help. i still can't believe it.
  13. what's a PM? I live in north sydney and usually go to the harbour but i'd be happy to make the trip to the beaches hawkesbury, botany or port hacking. I only have a kayak atm so most of my fishing is landbased, though i've seen some guys with pretty good fishing setups on their yaks (mine isn't so well setup). thanks to everyone for the warm welcome and advice. Hopefully I can put up another report soon. cheers, jewgal.
