  1. A little thread drift but E10 fuel is illegal to use in aviation. People tend to leave light planes outside for weeks at a time (like boats) and an engine failure at 4 thousand feet isnt pleasant and tends to ruin your day. Some older planes run 110 and its getting harder to buy also. Sorry for the drift.
  2. G'day all, When I take my tinny out with the kids for some tubing (NSW), I was under the impression that I need to include the person on the tube as part of the boats total capacity, ie Boat cap 4, which allows for 1 in tube and 3 in the boat. I did my license in QLD and thats what we were told on course and I still apply the same rule. Seems like common sense. I only ask as I know a bloke with a very nice ski boat, capacity 6, who was out at X-mas and regularly had 6 in the boat and 2 on the tube. He believes this is OK but I asked him what happens if the tube goes flat, someone gets hurt etc and you need to put them in the boat. You would then be overloaded. He shook his head and said that its never happened and hadn't thought of it. I can't find anything in the NSW Maritime handbook but if some else can provide more info, much appreciated.
  3. I know theres been other forums about the above type trailer lights discussing pros and cons but I have them on my trailer (bought new 13 months ago) and the left indicator packed it in today at the ramp. I try not to dunk them in the water but its hard to avoid sometimes. Anyway, when I got home and cleaned the boat I mucked around with the light for a while and after shaking it got four LED's to work but thats it. So is the unit stuffed and do I need to replace it? Is it a case of letting it dry out? Can it be repaired at all? These are what they look like from the Whitworths site. http://www.whitworths.com.au/main_itemdeta...tAbsolutePage=1 Any advice on what to do is appreciated. Thanks in advance.
  4. You can get a shallow water bracket fitted but this is still a manual system. It sits in against the leg and the pin and will get your prop up a bit higher, allowing to to go slowly in shallow water. Spring loaded device so that when you lift up your motor it will move and allow the leg to rest against whatever pin setting you have. Hope that makes sense. You can also buy a power tilt and trim unit that bolts in between your transom and the motor. This will push your motor out further from the boat by about 150mm but it will solve your problem. Have a look at the links below. I haven't seen the CMC units but I have been in a boat with the Panther unit and it worked very well. http://www.cmcsales.com.au./ http://www.panthermarineproducts.com/
  5. Same principal as "Geoff" said but instead of two ropes I use one, 7-8 m rope, tied at bow and stern with excess rope in a loop, then you can control the boat with one hand. Leave your cable or strap down at the rear of trailer after launching, hook up your boat and bring her in. If its really blowing a gale, run the rope under bottom of the trailer for leverage and away you go. Make the "wind" work for you and release rope from the loop as needed. An old bloke in Brisbane showed me this tip when I was struggling one day and I have never looked back.
  6. I've put a couple of threads up looking for info on various sounders and got some great info from people. I thought I would try my luck again and was wondering if anyone has one of the above sounders and what you think of it ? I have found them for $369, seems to be pretty good value.
  7. Anyone have an Eagle Fisheasy 350C at all ? If you do, what is it like? Are you happy with it ?
  8. Very interesting battle going on in the Jervis bay and St.Georges Basin areas with a proposed major tip planned for Tomerong. Locals are very worried about the effects of the tip on both waterways, as the tip will only be located 200m from a creek that runs into the Basin. Could have the potential to do some real damage to a couple of very nice waterways. Seems stupid to spend all that money on artifical reefs etc only to put a tip next to it. Here is the link. http://www.shutip.com/index.html
  9. G'day Shaune, What sounder did you end up buying ? I looking at the Garmin 400 C. Curious to see what you bought and what you think of it.
  10. Thanks for that. I think the 400C is what I'll go for. The 160C is all I actually need but the resolution is a bit average for the price and the 300C, I find the screen too small so it looks like the 400C will be the one. I think it will be more than I need for my boat but I want a colour screen and I'd like to be able to see it. There are some bloody good grey scales out there for around $450 but I much prefer the colour screen. I just find it easier to see during the day. If anyone else has opinions on the above units or you have a good colour unit that you can recomend, feel free to type away.
  11. Hello raiders, After some info please if anyone has one of the following sounders. I'm looking at the Garmin range at the moment. Really liked the features of the 300 C but find the screen is too small. I then looked at the 160C, bigger screen but less resolution. Next one was the 400C, better screen and resolution but is it overkill in a 4.2m tinny that stays in the river? If anyone has one of these, love to hear your thoughts on them and if you would change your mind with hindsight (ie screen sixe of 300C). Any advice is appreciated.
  12. Driving from Gold Coast back to Ipswich at 2am on the (2001) new motorway at 110kph wondering what the strange banging noise was that I could here whilst others all slept. I suddenly realised I shouldn't have let the young offsider tie down the bimini on his own. He only did one side and thought I did the other. His side was banging on the hull, my side was somewhere between Nerang and Jacobs Well.
  13. Hey hooked up, what did you eventually buy ? Whatever you bought I hope your happy and out there having fun.
  14. G'day hooked up, Noticed your post and as I have a Stessco boat, thought I should reply. I bought mine last year and its been excellent. Its a 4.2m tinny with 40hp tiller steer. Its been in some reasonably rough weather in St. Georges Basin when the Southerly has come up and its been fine. I'm sure if I thrashed it, it would crack but so would most tinnny's. I just drive it within the conditions. Mainly used on the basin and in the Shoalhaven river NSW. For what it is and for what I use it for its great. Stable at rest and deep enough to keep my kids inside it. Its not perfect, the finish could be a bit better and a few welds are a bit rough but I got a good deal and overall very happy. Its easy to look after and I'm on the water within 20 minutes of getting home. A neighbour has had same boat for 4 yrs, takes it offshore in good weather and hasn't had any problems. Also when living in Brisbane a few years ago I knew a couple of blokes that had various models and none had any dramas either. There are heaps of them operting on the Broadwater and Jacobs well most weekends. Only time will tell. Hope this helps, let me know if you want more info.
