  1. ooops made a mistake, Channel 88 on 27mgz
  2. Hey mate, good luck for Sunday, we're heading out for a marlin run tomorrow. Log on with the coastal patrol channel 70 on 27mgz or 16 on VHF. those channels will also give weather updates. Don't foregt to log off when you get back in. Goodcluck and tight lines James
  3. You also mention that you have outriggers. With a set up like that you will be able run 5 outfits. short corner, long corner, sort and long rigger and a shotgun. You will find lots of tips if you google lure spreads etc, also try googling some of the well know brands like pakula and that will point you in the right direction. good luck.
  4. Hi Guys, I don't use braid when marlin fishing. I run 50W tiagras loaded with 24kg and three penn (30s and 50's) with 15 kg, all mono, has more stretch. It does mean that you need to use the boat to keep that line tight all the time. I then run a double, tied with a simple plait knot about 2-3 inches long, plait is only 3-4 feet long. then use a wind-on leader 100 -150lb for the 15's and 250lb for the 24's. Gives greater control at the boat and also will give you a better chance if you manage to hook a larger fish. I then use sampo's tied with a uni knot. You can crimp the sampo's if you like. Good luck and tight lines
  5. PR knot. The guys in NZ use that know to tie 80lb braid to 130 mono. Once you get the hang of it, it can be tied quickly and it is very strong
  6. Framedtrash is right. I went to NZ lasty year and used the jiggingmaster hooks. Though I used size 9, but either will be perfect. Good luck

    Leak in hull

Bisso is right, I had the same problem in a fibreglass boat I had years ago. The screws that hold the bung unit in place were the problem. As bisso says pull out the whol bung unti clean it up and appkly a generous layer of sikaflex before screwing back together. you amy also need to increase the gague of screws you are using. If this doesnt solve your problem, put some water in the hull with food colouring, yellow is less obvious than pink and look for yellow stains.
  8. Well done on the hook up mate, proves you're doing something right. just keep perservering and you will one along side the boat.....
  9. Thanks for all your help guys... Will post a report upon return J
  10. Thanks Mate , We are staying in Anna Bay. Appreciate your help. J
  11. Hi Raiders, Heading up to Port Stephens in a couple of weeks for a long weekend. Have never fished there before. looking for suggestions on where to go. Will be taking my Barcrucher 560 so will have access to offshore fishing. Will have some non-fishos' with me so looking to target Kings, snapper, flathead etc. Any suggestions would be appreciated J
  12. With school holidays nearly over I offered to take my two 10 year old twin nephews for a bream bash and crabbing session in the hawkesbury. The boys arrive promptly at 6.30 with mum and dad in tow. Loaded them into the cruiiser and up to Mooney Monney we headed. Got there to find a howling wind with whitecaps in the river. None the less we launched and pushed my Barcrusher up onto the plane and headed towards Bar point. We deployed ten witches hats on the way in a couple of locations. We headed down to the vines for a fish while the crab baits soaked. Well an hour later we had caught one catfish. So we pulled up and went to check out dilly nets. a bit disappointing there as well, one crab and one dilly with a massive hole in it and the bait gone. I suspect a muddy. Left half a dozen hats in the spot where we caught the first crab and then put out 4 mre in a couple of other locations. Anchored up at Bar point and the boys had a ball pulling in undersized beam. We did manage a keeper silver bream and a flounder. The boys got one each so they were stoked. By now it was 12.00 and we headed off the check the crab nets again. Nothing at two locations and then at the same location where we caught our first crab we managed another. Unfortunately some bugger decided to steal two of our nets, we assume they had crabs in them and off they went. We can't understand why people have no respect for others these days. Most fishos I've encountered over the years have been pretty good blokes. What motivates someone to pull up someone else's crab trap and steal it along with the catch. This is the second time this has happed on our previous trip we lost two nets as well. Anyway whilst the boys had a ball, I was a bit disappointed for them as they were having great time pulling up the crab pots. The two nets that went missing would have certainly made their day. I think I will stop using floats that can be seen from a distance from now on and just use a bit of stick that floats. We were hoping to do better on the crabs. If anyone has had success latel;y and is willing to share some tips on bait and locations, and depths that would be most appreciated. Cheers James
  13. Thanks guys, Crowdy head will be the launch ramp..... I'll take the advice and buy the map and register with the local coastal patrol. Thanks guys Will post a report sometime in January James
  14. Hi Raiders, I'm heading up to Harrington early in January and have never been there before. Can anyone help me with spots to fish up there. Taking my Barcrusher 560, so we have access to fish mostly anywhere. Interested in flathead, reds, mowies, etc etc and also interested in dollies and trolling for Marlin, not sure what other pelagics to expect at that time of year. Cheers James
  15. Hi Richard, I've always got them just inside the harbour near the wharves, just burley up..... if you are going in search of marlin you are probably better off dragging lures as you will cover much more ground. Tight lines James
