  1. http://www.abc.net.au/local/stories/2009/11/20/2735024.htm Found this from the Pirtek facebook page. Mullet, Barra, Fishing reel screaming.. Thought some poeple here might be interested at least.
  2. From there facebook status.. Pirtek Fishing challenge If your brag mat does not arrive in time, or you lost it, do not panic. Write your angler number on a piece of cardboard in black pen and use a Fisheries-style measuring sticker (available at your local tackle store) to measure your fish. Then photograph your fish following the competition rules.
  3. ... All you guys doing prep work for the Pirtek... I will be doing housework on Saturday, maybe buying some bait for Sunday. Good luck to all and I hope a Fishraider wins it..
  4. Just to let you all know Pirtek Fishing challenge mention This site on Facebook...
  5. Thanks for all the info guys. I will have another look at that charter group. If all else fails there is always the wineries.
  6. Hello all, I am going to Melbourne for a couple of days in early in June with the wife. I have been trying to find a charter service that will take me out on a friday as that is the only day I will have to myself but no luck. Either they operate on Sundays or not at all during that time of year Does any one know any land based spots around Melbourne that might be worth a go or a charter company that I have not yet contacted? I think I am staying at the casino. Assistance would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks Althasaur
  7. Thamks for the onfo lala. I might be able to find that jig now. A lot of the guys at bass point use them as well.
  8. Hi guys, Went out to Port Hacking with Beginner last night chasing some bream. Got to the spot at about 10.00 pm and got straight into the fishing. First of managed a few pinkies which we threw back in. Then a Mullet and a small taylor. I managed to end up landing a 31 cm Bream. Was a quite night all up, It felt like we were getting hit but after a few boats went past it all went dead. Left for home at about 2.00am
  9. Good fishing there guys. Glad to see you are wearing pfd's and boots. Actually as a genereal comment, whne I was at Garie Beach, Isaw quite a few people coming back form the rocks with PFD's and wearing rock boots.
  10. Hey guys caught my first Australian Salmon off Garie Beach today. Full pics to follow. Ok guys here is the report. Doing this on a public computer so no pics as yet. Went out with the father inlaw Yesterday to go catch some Aussie Salmon off Garie Beach. We were supposed to go on Sunday but the inlaws had to bring the dogs as well and no dogs allowed in the National Park Any way, The Father in Law, a couple of his mates and myself made it out to the beach early yesterday morning. 3 were caught the whole day. 1 was on the first cast from the father in law while the rest of us were still setting up. About 50cm I caught the next one at about 40cm. I can tell you it was interesting trying to get it in. I had to wait for the waves to come so I did not break the line or rod. Next one his mates caught the last, and the biggest one at about 55cm. The othery guy only caught a small flathead at about 15cm or so. We were using mackeral as bait, either whole or pieces. and the tide was coming in. Most of the fish were caught whilst it was still overcast adn we could see that the guys on the rocks were not having much luck either. It was a good day all up and I am very happy with the fish I caught. It was a good day and a good learning experience for me. BTW I was using an 8' rod and series 5000 reel and the other guys were using 12' rods and 9000 penn reels. Ate the fish as a soup, fried and "kalliwan" , not sure of the correct spelling. says that there is a spanish equlivant as well. Basically the fish is chopped into small cubes, marinated in vinegar, onion, ginger and chilli until it is cooked in the vinegar. My Fish The biggest fish

    Ugly Fish

The Estuary Catfish has a large flattened head and a body that tapers to a pointed tail. The dorsal, caudal and anal fins are continuous. The dorsal and pectoral fins each have an embedded, serrated spine. These spines are poisonous. The species has a relatively small mouth that is surrounded by four pairs of barbels. A fifth pair of barbels is present above the snout. The Estuary Catfish is mottled brown and yellow. Australian Museum
  12. Looks like an awesome night. Hope you guys had fun.
  13. Looks good, I wonder what the target species will be. Put in a reminder already. BTW does fishraider qualify as a fishing club? Paid my $20.00. Cant wait to see what species they are going to target.

  15. G'day All Thanks to Nathan (AKA Begginer) for taking me out to Port Hacking for squid fishing last night. Arrived about 8.00pm Made a few casts out with a squid lure then saw all the action happening underneath my feet and thought bugger that, lets get some. Changed the lure for a hook, wacked on some bread and came up with these small fry.. Not bad for first time out in i don't know how long. Only small but no legal size for these and the Wifes family love em All we saw caught was 2 squid, my 2 yakka's a baby trevally? and a angle, should be devil fish... (ate all my bait ) We left about 9.45 pm.
