  1. awesome fish mate, bet they would have given you a nice fight. But, most importantly... sexy outfit!
  2. Hey guys, been a while since my last post, been fishing quite often and have had some memorable captures but i've just been lazy to post. Until.... Yes it's true, I did in fact come across a big croc in Sydney Harbour. It all started when..... On a lovely saturday morning, i wake up after camping on my backyard (different story ), next to the water on the harbour. Not a breath of wind, not a cloud in the sky, i couldn't think of a better way to recover from a shite previous night, then to take the 2-4kg trion to the wharf. Armed with my favourite, trusty old zx30 blade. Let me tell you, that blade had seen better days, it's had two hook upgrades, caught me countless fish and i've only ever owned of them, which i still have! Anyway, that's beside the point. I wasn't really expecting to catch anything substantial, i was actually aiming for a nice little plate sized flatty or bream. Which is why i was only armed with 6lb braid and 4lb fluoro (linesystems; i love you). I started of hopping my blade along the bottom, cast after cast in different directions enjoying my day when... near the base of the wharf, close to the end of my retrieve, i feel i tiny little 'tick' like a bream bite. I strike and straight away i could tell it was some sort of flat fish but nothing substantial at all, until.. Suddenly i feel a lot of dead weight. Half way up, in no real imposing structure, it feels like my little flatty (so i'd thought) got stuck? Ummm no. Out of no where it takes a big run, thankfully away from structure and in my head this fish went from being 30-40cm to about 70+. I knew straight away i was in for the long haul and there was no rushing this fish. I had a few tense moments for a couple of minutes steering the fish away from structure and changed my mind about 10 times on whether it was a jewie or a flatty. I just wanted a glimpse of it. And then, low and behold... it appears from under the wharf, and it just keeps coming and coming, there was no end to this fish! it was big! But i had bigger problems, for 1) i had no net! so i spent probably a good 5 mins trying to lie down and grab by it's gills or lip, but Flloyd (that's right, i named... her?) didn't like that and kept taking her last bursts for freedom when my neighbour sees me struggling from the shore and says; "Ohh you got a fish, have you" "yes, it's rather large!" "Ok, hold on a tick i'll get you our net". Unfortunately, i think my neighbour under-estimated the size of the fish with the net she came up with because you'd struggle to fit my head in that thing. Anyway, after 2 missed shots, roughly 25 mins of fighting and a dodgy net/tail grab job.... Up she came! My biggest croc, let alone fish to date! and who would have thought it would have been caught on 6lb line and 4lb leader (thank god she was lip hooked). She ended up going 78cm and a bit on the lie detector and she wasn't lacking in fatness. So a few pics and we realised her into our saltwater pool/enclosure (which had access to the open water), where she had a sulk for a couple of hours and then back to the depths! Either than that, on sunday i fished for a while with only bread and landed 3 nice blackies (1 goodun) and legal bream (30cm). Plus, i felt victim to a massive local surgeon fish that has probably three of my hooks in it's mouth but was seen casually picking bread pieces in the berley trail. Anyway, please excuse the length of this report... I don't expect you to read it all but i just felt like writing Cheers, Luke __________________
  3. Cheers for your reply mate, yeah well it's a nice place to fish from, if our objective while there was to see wildlife then today would have been a success. We saw believe it or not a dingo crossing the road on the way up to lithgow, countless kangaroos, even a wombat! we also came across alot of dead animals such as dead goats, rabbits and kangaroos on the waters edge along the eastern side of the dam which was weird. But the fishing was frustrating to say the least, we were looking at the Cox's river and it looks good, any particular info on good fishing access there?
  4. Hey guys, We're up in the blue mountains this weekend and need some help. Today, my mate and I fished TCD for the second time with the same result.... zilch, nada, zero a big fat donut. After all the successful reports i see on this site regarding TCD, these results are making me a little depressed. We fished fly and lure, soft plastics, hard bodies, tassie devils, dries, wooly buggers and nymphs all for one follow. Anyway, we're planing to change our luck tomorrow morning by fishing some rivers instead, because regardless of we catch or not, there's just some thing magical about fishing a pristine river for trout with fly rod in hand. We were wondering, with all the blue mountain fly fishing knowledge we know people have on this site, what would be our best bet for a fly fish tomorrow? preferably on a stream, fly or lure, and relatively easily accessible (although a mild hike wouldn't be bad). Also, it'd be great to know the pick of the flies to use at this of year around here. Any advice is greatly appreciated and feel free to PM me any info if necessary. Tight Lines , Luke
  5. Holy crap mate! do you ever have a bad days fishing!? top fish
  6. Great report! I found that to be a very interesting an enjoyable read. i feel your pain and frustration towards thetrout but their cunningness is, i guess, what makes them such a good fish to target. Thankfully, it seems like you managed to get into the action! Cheers, luke
  7. Thanks Ray! got some great pressies, had a great day and caught 5 nice bream on surface lures including this one that took a stationary pencil that was unskillfully casted violently and made a big splash. Tight Lines
  8. FISH 10 I'd like to enter my 44cm elbow slapper ito the COTM comp. I caught it on a Jaz Zappa 55 surface pencil lure, 6lb braid and 4lb leader. The fish struck like a beast and went like clappers. My First ever whiting on a surface lure and it went 44cm! Full Report Here
  9. No no no, I'm not sure if you're familiar with the term, but alot of people I know and myself call big mullet, bullies. Apologise for the confusion Hahahaha. Although, it's funny you say that because not too long ago some guy pulled out a big bull shark from out the front of patonga beach on a boat, so becareful swimming there
  10. Mate, I think i stayed at the exact place you're talking about and we had great success on the 2 days fishing we had. As most of the others said, your best bet would be to collect some livebait wich are plentiful in the creek (including some big bullies) burley them up on any bankside and either fish for them on a float with a little bit of bread or use a little trap you can make out of juice bottles! When i was there i had success on flatties deploying our live poddies about 50m out from the wharf(on a boat) and just drift along the shore (chucking some plastics around etc.) until you get a hit. Repeat drifts but keep moving further away from shore. We caught 4 nice flatties doing this and 6 squid that just were holding on to our live poddies and we'd net them. Another method which would be kid friendly would be checking out te wharf or the boat ramp, take out some livies if necessary and have a lazy fish. If not, the creeks provides some fantastic fishing too! take the kids on on the yak, explore the creek with a rod in hand and there are some great fish to be had casting lures etc. towards the shore. Word of advise, if you were planning to go up the creek, pick the slack tides as during the run off and run in the water gushes quite fast through the main channel near the mouth so it's not easy to fight the current. anyway, hope this helps and hope yo catch some fish Tight Lines
  11. Sounds like a fantastic day out mate. nice whiting there and great to see the ol' man getting in the action Tight Lines
  12. Mate, fishing journalism is exactly what i wan't to do as a career! and i've been having some practise lately and sending my reports to fishing world, I'd love for them to post my report on their site which they said they will! Also, the beach i was fishing at was a dog beach so it just decided to sneak up behind me and pose for the camera, i think it was the dog of the guy who i asked to take a picture of me. So... unfortunately, not my dog.
  13. Congrats Roberta! Sounds like a beauty of a day out. Great fish and aren't those whiting fun on the surface! that hit when it smashes your lure causing a big splash really gets your heart rate going doesn't it? i must say when i saw that crab i was licking my lips as it had my name all over it! hahahah But kudos to you for letting him fight another day
  14. I'm sorry to disappoint you but that's Sydney Harbour, on a good day i guess? Mosman bay and sirius cove
  15. Some more fish pics i wasn't allowed to add on the first post
