  1. Caught this on a recent Houseboat Trip in the hawkesbury while targeting Yellowtail for liveys in Little Jerusalem Bay, Cowan. He is about the 20cm mark, didnt put up much of a fight and due do not knowing wtf he was didnt find out if he was tasty or not. So all you hobby marine biologists, wtf? Cheers.
  2. Hey mate, Ive been on a houseboat for the last 4 nights, managed to catch a lifetimes worth of yellowtail from the small bays, unfortunately I was unable to convert them to something bigger. I did see 2 guys in a tinny pull up close to shore and catch a few decent sized bream, they were bearlying and working baits like madmen, so i guess if you know what your doing they are out there too. Also alot of undersize tailor as well are in the bays. Sorry i cant be much more help.
  3. Oh yeh, the parking cops would have had a field day. But of course when you need them they arent around. The second part is tempting, but ods are the real cops would rock up just as i was doing it. ....and of course neither I nor Fishraider endorse that kind of activity.
  4. Headed down to berowra today to launch the little boat that can only to find that quite a few of the car AND trailer spots were taken up by inconsiderate picnicers, resturaunt goes or just people in general who lack a BOAT TRAILER to park in the car AND TRAILER parking area. After sitting around watching about 10 other people circling the carpark looking for a spot for their car AND TRAILER after launching i decided to just up my gear and leave. I couldnt be bothered making the trip all the way down to boundary road and back up to brooklyn only to have the same problem. I knew it was going to be busy and if the entire carpark was taken up by cars with boat trailers i wouldnt be so upset, it would be my own stupid fault for sleeping in an extra hour. Im going to the pub to watch the Cricket, i hope everyone else has good holiday as i hope the next half of my day is much better than this morning. Bye!
  5. Not that its really the right area of the hawkesbury, but scored a few decent size bream and flathead north of berowra ferry on saturday morning. Heading out for a bash tomorrow morning too.
  6. If you want the a live barometer reading thats updated every 10mins, ring Cessnock Automated Weather Info Service at the airport on 4990 7628. Amongst all the info such as wind and direction, cloud height, dewpoint etc is a stat known as QNH. You will hear something along the lines of "QNH one zero one three" which means 1013 hPa. Tight lines!
  7. Hey all, rather than get filled to the gullet on vb tonight like most other people will be doing ive decided to have an early night so i can wake up and go on a jew hunt tomorrow morning from berowra for the low tide in the morning, going to be going for my first legal! So, ill be searching around early morning for some mullet schools and hopefully get a few fresh slabs out of them. Failing that, as a backup does anyone know a good shop around castle hill that sells fresh squid? OR better still does anyone know a good area in Berowra Creek that stocks live squid? Help a fellow fisho out so he can finally win! Thanks in advance.
  8. Good work. He will certainly come in handy when its live baiting time.
  9. Wake vortexes are a by-product of lift production from the wing. Its essentially the same thing as the wake waves from behind your boat. Its the higher pressure from under the wing making its way back over and top into the lower pressure air, thats where the vortex comes from. Thats a painfully simplistic way of explaining it. You cant make a plane fly without making a wake vortex the same as you cant move your boat through water without making a wake wave(s). The displaced water wants to return to where you disturbed it from. Its Newton's equal and opposite reaction. If you need a better explanation there are a million videos on youtube that explain wake vortex and why its really bad for little planes that private pilots fly. If you ever see a large plane fly into or out of cloud see if you can see the vortex in the cloud, you will understand why it might be bad for a smaller plane.
  10. Im guessing water temperature is the issue? Its been floating around 20degC for a few weeks now. Everytime I look at the IR picture on Weatherzone it seems the warmer water still doesnt want to head any further south from QLD.
  11. Nice work dood, i was out on thursday night at a few little holes around the mouth of berowra creek and got nothing. Then again im far from an expert on the jews, but persistence will hopefully pay off. Must be nice to catch a flathead the size of a dinner table and then head out for an 8x jew session a few days later. Keep the good news coming!
  12. Interesting idea, but too much work, plus I cant see a battery drill that sells for $35 being very reliable. During lunch I went to jaycar and can get a 12v-12ah plus carry bag with a cig plug for about $80 so thats a win. The battery can be recharged from a normal car battery charger so thats a win too, considering i have about 5 of them lying around somewhere in the shed. NOW, ill start doing some research into finders, again. :-). If anyone has a subjective opinion regarding brands and whatnot I would love to hear them. :-)
  13. Hey all, Ive been pimping out the little 10 foot to get ready for the summer season and I want to get a fishfinder for it. Ive seen the humminbird fishin buddy online and its something like that clamp on style battery powered finder that im after. However before I hand over $250 odd dollars for one I just wanted to know if there are any other brands worth considering. I want to avod having to setup a battery box and fuse panel into a boat that barely fits me and an esky as it is. All help appreciated. Thanks!
  14. Hey raiders! Im heading out from terrigal next wednesday to try my hand at deep sea jigging for some big kings. The trip is byo jigs, all other equipment is supplied. Just after some info on what I should be looking for at the moment in regards to the jig, so far ive been suggested that brown, yellow and green colours are the gun, weight is obviously current dependant. Any ideas to help out a super novice jigger? Thanks in advance.
  15. Nice work. If you dont mind me asking, what area were you fishing and were you burleying at the time?
