  1. Yep you know that old saying about the brass monkey My brother and I went out again today, the same thing, cold water, full moon, no Bream of any size, got a few flatties tho, up the back near coopers John
  2. Yep I will let you know how they go! I just heared that Sebile took orders for over $250 000 of lures at the show and won 4 awards, so it was not just me and a few others that liked them. One of the best I liked was a vibe filled with oil, that rattels at a much lower and more life like frequency, the oil also turns red as the lure vibrates imitating a bleeding fish, hi tech or what! 3. Well my months Holiday is about over and I am back in Tuross once again. With only a few days left I was invited to a couple of days fishing locally. The first was an outside day on friday and saw my mate and I hitting the water at Moruya at about 6.30am and we headed out about 5k. After a great day we hed a very good feed of tiger flathead, snapper and a gummy. I tested a Stimulate Slam 4" minnow on the highest hook of my rig and found I got as many fish on the plastic as I did on bait. Sunday saw my second day of fishing and this was in the Southern Bream Classic at Tuross lake. My brother invited me to fish with him, but in an unexpected turnaround my father decided he wanted to fish as well and the rules say you can only have two to a boat. Guess who got kicked out, well not realy I donated my seat So I decided not to fish in my boat but take out a kayak instead, the prowler 13 is a fishing kayak and I needed to loose a few kg anyway. The fishing was very slow all over the lake most struggled to reach the bag of 5 fish and in the boating section only 24 out of the 40 odd boats weighed fish. As for me I have decided that kayak fishing is very hard work, after rowing 10k I didn't manage to catch a bream of any size, only one small one and 3 flathead, not realy what I was after. I found fishing so close to the water very frustrating and i could not see under water structure to cast to as i would normally do from the boat, The wind was a bugger and my arms and shoulders are going to take weeks to get back to normal, not to mention my knees . Anyway I had fun..... sort of! All the results are on this site Southern Bream Classic Tuross Results Cheers John
  4. Hi all I have just returned from the AFTA trade show held at the Gold Coast. Day one saw my brother Max and I fishing in the AFC Bream comp for the trade show, we were partnered up with last years winner Mick (sorry I forgot the surname) Mick owns a very nice Stella boat and was good enough to set us up with some nice gear before we headed out into the seemingly endless canals of the gold coast, fishing firstly softplastics against the channel markers I managed a reasonable bream first cast. We finished at 11am with our 5 fish in the tank afer upgrading only once. Out of about 14 teams we ended up 7th, I was happy with that it was a great morning with some great blokes. The Tackle show introduced me to a few new bits and peices that I will be introducing to the shelves of the boatshed over the next few months, the range of gear that is available is huge but I found much of it very similar. Sebile and Crank are two new lures makes that impressed me, Sebile had a test tank set up and the action of their lures is very life like. We will be testing them in the lake and will let you know how they go. Cheers John
  5. Mate its a great place, my tip if you are going to port villa is to take a stroll down behind the casino and markets, check out the boats and talk to the skippers that are there. Negotiate a price on a boat you like and go for it. Forget the bookings from the tourist places you can get a better deal. We are Just back stayed 10 days and returned just before the earthquake hit. The weather was a bit shitty when we were there so the fishing was not that good but we still had a ball. P.S make sure you take some gastro tablets with you we all got a bit crook in the guts from the local food. Cheers John
  6. Thanks for the comments and praises guys, I still have a grin from ear to ear today, and not one customer got away from the shop without looking at the photos...lol My only regret it that I didnt take a photo on the mat, you dont think in the excitment, all I was worried about was getting her back in the water quickly. Johno
  7. I posted a quick video on youtube, we didnt get the capture on video unfortunatly but we got the release. it a bit long winded in the boat but I didnt get time to edit it much.
  8. Yep this old girl went a bit crazy, at first it was just a heavy headshake but on the way up she decided to have a big run, I thought it may have been mt elusive jew, but the headshakes confused me. On light gear, 6kg braid 4kg leader it was a challenge but after a bit of a battle I won. The next tough bit was getting it into the boat only the head fitted into the net, so we had to net the head and roll the body into the boat.
  9. Soft plastic, light colour prawn shape about 10cm long, 3/8oz Jig head, had lots of hits and misses so changed to larger hook and bingo.
  10. Today I caught my largest flathed yet, 97m and a massive 7.28kg We measured photographed and video'd it before releasing it back to the lake. I have been trying for a Jew fish for months with no luck but this is a reasonable consolation prize. John
  11. Thought I would als add this photo so you can get the size in the last photo. Caught this little fellow while the lure was on the bottom because I was helping alex get his in the boat, when I picked up the rod and started cranking bang he took it.
  12. biggest is a 3.3kg Salmon caught on a home made lure (we are loosing a few and it gets a bit expensive) Caught on 6kg braid with a 4kg leader.
  13. Tuross is having some unbelievable action on Salmon and Taylor at the moment. Young Alex and I went out yesterday to see what was happening in the lake, our one day away from the boatshed in the last fortnight. The morning started a little late with me sleeping in, but we still managed to get on the lake by about 8am, as we went toward the entrance I noticed that the birds were going frantic on the shallows opposite the boatramp. We went to investigate and found a large school of salmon going crazy on baitfish. A cast with a metal lure into the middle of the school produced a hook up and a 10 min battle for the first fish, Now young Alex is a real scull drag fisherman and I thought this is a great way for him to learn the ropes on playing a fish properly, we were only fishing light gear, 6lb braid with a 4 lb leader so no give on a 2kg Salmon if you try to get him in to quick. After loosing about 3 silver irons he started to realise that he had to hold his rod up and use its spring, set the drag to suit the line and play the fish. After about 3 hours I recon he had the knack. Great lesson! We must have caught 30 fish in the morning and my arms were killing me by the time we pulled into the deck at around lunch time, we kept 5 to put in the smoker and let the rest go. Afer a rest at home we decided to go out again and fish the evening. We met young Tim from the boatshed and we both headed out in our boats to fish the opening. It was unbelevable action, Tim had four people in his boat and we had just the two, fishing side by side at the entrance, fish were everywhere, at one stage everybody was hooked up, there was a lot of ducking and turning, swaping and dodging but many fish were landed and released, UNBELIEVABLE! I have not had so much fun in a long time, the guys fishing from the beach and rock were having just as much fun! Reports from fishermen comming into the shop today is that from one tree point you can see black masses of fish at the entrance to the lake, so there must be other much larger fish following them as well! Lots of fun. Go Tuross! John Pos some photos soon and a video if I cn work out how. seems I can only upload 1 photo, 100k limit in total?
