  1. Thanks guys. Went with the sustain.
  2. Hello fellow fish raiders, I picked myself up a nitro rockstar rod today for spinning off the rocks and I am undecided on which reel to put on it. I am tossing up between a shimano sustain and a okoume Salina 3. Both in 10000 size. I love the look, feel and weight of the sustain, but the Salina is half the price and has 24kg drag pressure (vs 12.7kg on the sustain). After some suggestions from fellow raiders. Can anybody help?
  3. Hi guys, I have recently purchased a fishing kayak which I am picking up next week. Can't wait! Question I have is which PFD to go for? I know there are so many to choose from so I thought I would throw it out there and ask all the raiders out there what PFD you guys reccommend? Matt
  4. Lung fai, Where abouts can I get a reel case like this? And if you don't mind me asking, how much would one set me back? Wouldn't mind getting one for my Stella's! Cheers, Matt
  5. Thanks for the feedback guys!
  6. That's what I was thinking. I thought that it would be easier to feed out line with a leve drag overhead as well as easier to apply drag. I spose I just want a different setup as well as all my rods have spin reels. I will mainly be using this setup on a boat. Any suggestions for specific rods/reels? Thanks for all the replies so far! Matt
  7. Hi guys, Long time follower/reader of fishraider, however this is my first post. As the title suggests, I am looking to buy a new overhead combo for chasing mainly Jews and the odd kingy. I would mainly use it to rig up Livies and dead baits. Having only ever used spin gear, I thought I would post this asking for suggestions from fellow raiders. Thanks in advance! Matt
  8. If you are heading anywhere near Bangkok, there is a fishing park called bungsamran just out of bangkok. From memory it was about half hour cab ride out of the city. There is accommodation there too and you can fish straight into the dam off your own privat balcony. Although I didn't stay there, the accommodation looked reasonable. I think it was about $100 Australian when I fished there and that got you your tackle, bait and a guide for half a day I think. Was good fun reeling in 20-30kg giant Mekong catfish that's for sure! Matt
  9. What a ripper! Good work guys!
  10. Nice kingy mate! Too bad we can't find them that big when I'm out with ya! Just read another report elsewhere of a 140cm king caught off Sydney over the weekend. The bigguns are definately around atthe moment!
  11. Hey guys, Went down to Clifton gardens with a mate last night to try our luck off the wharf. Armed with a couple of frozen squid caught a couple of weeks ago I was hoping to get a king or Jew. So I put a whole squid on my ugly stick/baitrunner combo on a double snelled riband cast it out unweighted. Then I rig up my flick rod with a squid jig as I cast this out as my jig hit the water, my baitrunner starts to scream! The bait had been in the water for less than two minutes! I pick up my rod and start winding. I quickly realised that it wasn't a jewie. Had a few good runs and after a few minutes I see colour. It's a snapper. And a decent size too. So we get the net and land the fish and it went 40cm. ( PB landbased snapper for me) So, I re rigged my half squid I had left after the snapper(kindly donated my other squid to my mate who used as strip baits for one small snapper and not much else) but didnt have much luck. Didn't land any squid, not even a hit! But managed to land a small tailor which I put on as a live bait. Which didn't get touched either. Only got the one fish but I was happy with that. Pan fried snapper for dinner tonight! YUMMO! Matt
  12. I was just fishing off the wharf. First time I have really had a crack at them myself. I found that retrieving the jig by giving it 2 or 3 quick stabs then letting it sink for around 10 sec in between worked best.
