  1. Thanks, it was actually caught with one of your lures from the tuna pack I bought off you a few years ago. Didn't fill the chamber with any bait as all the bait we had on the boat was still frozen.
  2. Hi Mate, Southern Canyons is around 18nm from Botany heads.
  3. Unfortunately we were running low on fuel just as the temp was dropping so we decided to turn back for the long ride home. We were half way to Kiama canyons so I reckon another 10nm and we would have found it. By Tuesday it would have been even further. Not a very good tuna season for me this year.
  4. Went out in search of Tuna last Monday at the Southern Canyons. We headed further south towards the temp break with only two lures out when the line started peeling off the 50W. I was certain we were onto a tuna from that first run but after fighting the fish for a while I started to think this wasn't the tuna I was hoping for. Twenty minutes later and my suspicion was right when I saw the Mahi Mahi. It was foul hooked just behind the head which made the fight a lot harder than what it should have been but this was a pb for me so I was happy we got it into the boat after numerous gaff attempts. it weighed in at roughly 17kgs and was 1.4m in length. What a weird winter fishing season we are having with big dollies and Marlin being caught not too far from the tuna. Charts off Bermagui look great if your down that way.
  5. They are definitely at Batemans Bay, received a text from a mate and they were 27nm straight out of the bay and had a school of bluefin under the boat. Not barrels but still good fish.
  6. After looking at the sst charts that cold water which was due to hit Sydney over the next few days has been pushed back down south by that hot current. Im scared we might not even get a crack at them off Sydney this year. I really hope I'm wrong. Whats everyone else thinking.
  7. The fish caught off Uludulla were huge.
  8. Congrats guys, fish of a lifetime. can't wait for those barrels to make their way up to Sydney.
  9. Wow, what a story. Cant wait to see the pics. Cant believe the hook snapped, must have been more like 200kg I reckon.
  10. Unfortunately the morning I left I checked rip charts and there was too much cloud cover to show me that temp break otherwise I would have headed straight to heatons. Wish there was mobile service out there to check rip charts for daily updates.
  11. I was out there today and didn't hear much on the radio. I heard the boat say they had caught two yellowfin but I didn't believe them as the water temp east of browns was quite cold. I deep dropped Browns for one Gemmie. Had another big fish coming up from the deep that got sharked with 50m to go and then I ended up fighting this Mako manually on my electric reel for the next hour. I got it boat side and estimated it to be around the 100-120kg mark. After that I got sealed to a Gemmie. Does anyone have any tricks on how to get past the seals or once they are there its a free feed for them. So annoying.

    Etec or Not?

Ive had both motors on previous boats. I think it also depends on what type of fishing you'll be doing as well. I used to have a 175 etec on my 6m evolution and the only drawback i would say is it use to go through a bit of the not so cheap xd100 two stroke oil but apart from that can't fault it. Ive also had the suzuki df140 on the back of a barcrusher and that was an awesome motor too so the only real advice i can give you is if you intend on selling your boat in the near future you'll be better off getting the suzuki as a lot of buyers don't particular like two strokes anymore even though the etecs are great motors.
  13. Not much happening out there today, I started trolling off Kiama canyons and headed up to Browns and found nice temp breaks but didn't turn a reel all day. Heard of a few yellowfin and albacore getting caught around 4pm but not much else. Altimetry is no good out the front of Sydney at the moment but hopefully it changes soon.
  14. If there are any Raiders wanting to go halves on Reef Magic tomorrow please inbox me or call Damo. Cost for the whole boat is $1900 so trying to get a few to join me. Thanks
