G'day Hodgey, As you know we left after two weeks late in Jan, and had a great holiday. More than enough fish to keep me happy. I was talking with one of the Oyster Farmers who told me - "We'll get a flood come next month. Won't be pretty around here" Sometimes I reckon the council should listen to these old timers who have lived in the area for ever, and earn their living by being in tune with nature. PS - I was flicking small sps around the weedbanks to the SE of the cardinal mark, and had a nice jewie scoot past the boat. Only got a quick glimpse, but it was a bit bigger than a schoolie. I hope there is some follow up rain to keep the entrance open. Cheers Ken

Not quite true. My spotters come with prescription spotters lenses in the bronze penetrator photochromatic. Expensive, but well worth it. If you were to pick spotters frames and have the optometrist add the lenses, (rather than Spotters p/l) then you would be wasting a lot of money.

Hank Newman is a sportsfishing Icon. He was an original member of ANSA and ran the fishing section of an old hardware chain, Nock and Kirbys, (was that Joe the Gadgetmans store?). He had his own range of equipment - harnesses, rods, gimbals etc. All very high quality that were sold from his shop in George st from memory. You could buy his stuff from other shops too. The man was a legend, and I remember talking to him as a young bloke. He was very easy to talk to and was happy to answer all my questions.

yep - Sydney Harbour. They also get them in Cairns and South Africa where they use them a mackeral baits. A very mysterious fish.

seeing it was 50 odd years ago, it may even be a Bluefish (Girella cyanea). Now a very rare capture on the east coast, still caught in numbers at LHI. Bluefish I should also mention that we caught a bluefish off the stones at Batemans in the early '70s, so Dalmeny isn't that far away.

Mick - no doubt it is a populist budget. Too bad they didn't have the testicular fortitude to pour some real dollars from the surplus into health and transport infrastructure, and real tax reform. Many people will see this as a break even budget - what they save in tax goes on the mortgage and petrol. The superannuation reform at this point looks pretty good, but I haven't seen the detail. Don't get me started on the IR reforms. Yes there was need of reform, but how far did the pendulum need to swing? Ken

No solvent necessary apooh. Take a razor blade / stanley knife, and strip the epoxy away from the guide feet (ie use the feet of the guide to protect the blank from the blade). You will then be able to peel off the rest of the epoxy with your fingernails. A very light rub with fine steel wool usually removes the dregs. You can run a blade along the blank but be very careful not to nick the blank, as this will produce a weak spot. You may need to slightly heat the tip to remove it (if it has been glued on). Don't overheat as this will wreck the blank. If heat doesn't work, you may need to file it off. Go slow! Most grips will come up like new with some soap and warm water. Cork sometimes need a rub with very fine grit sandpaper. Hope this helps Cheers Ken
