  1. Its not just rods and reels at Windang.... Shes a greedy beach, Last year me good mate brett lost his neer new boat crossing the bar... See bellow pics for end result! 2 adults on board and 13yo kid... She went turtle coming in across the bar... Me other mate steve in his trusty Hilux
  2. Ouch... I was in a mates boat, we were trawling off palm beach... He had on each side of the boat, rowlock mounted plastic rod holders.... I Had my pride and joy Tyrnos 20 and Shimano Backbone 15kg rod, Total value about $450 trawling my fav deep diver halco, when it was hit by a King, Snapping the rod holder cleen off the gunwall of the boat... I Was driving the boat and my mate was sitting next to my rod, All i heard was my mate shouting, YOUR ROD!!! he managed to grab it just before it went over the back of the boat... End result 70cm king... Moral to the story, alwase teather rods/reels to the boat! Which i do religiously... lol

  5. Ok guys heading down to narooma in just under a week for a fishing tournament, and have devoted about a 100bucks to invest in some new lures... We will be doing a mixture of trolling and bottom bashing, for bottom bashing we will be useing fresh and frozen baits... at this stage the plan is to fish montague island extensivly.... We intend on targeting anything BIG that moves with the exception of marlin, as we just simply are not equiped for fish like that.... So i guess we would like to see all types of Tuna BIG Kings (Hopefully) Salmon, Old man Snapper and other reef fish.... So my questions to you..... What lures would you not leave home to head down there without???? How should i spend my hard earned dosh??? Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.... Mat
  6. so far this year ive caught 5 kings, 2 legals, the rest were rats and were taken trolling a Halco Lazer pro in gold/black... i had one that went 63cm So close.. The 2 legals were caught on a paternoster with 2 droppers, 1 on each hook!!! since then nothing but rats... Fun to catch but ge ide like to take one home... lol edit:these were all just outside the hawksbury, i havnt fished the harbour yet...
  7. I Work in darling harbor I have my lunch down there all the time, The fish in there is incredible, Ide Love to have a fish there... lol
  8. Hey guys, Firstly in march im entering a fishing comp down at Narooma then in april we are heading down to culburra... My linkit says 2010 im still waiting for them to update the 2011 tournament I was going to go down there and pretty much catch what i can catch with my current gear... Then i went to my local Tackle store, and the guy said, down at Culburra this time of year im nuts if i dont target marlin as they are in peak season at that time of year... He said the most effective way is Catching slimys on a Sabki rig and trolling them slow as possible rigging them with an rubber band and large hook.... For narooma if i want to chase the Magic marlin he sugested that i go for a largeish skirted lure, it was then i picked up a pakula lure... Now ive NEVER Caught a marlin before ive alwase thought that they were too hard to catch or out of my league.... But this guy in the tackle store has got me thinking.... Is it worth trying? or am i kidding myself?? If so how hard is it to catch slimies on a sabki rig? is there any other way of catching slimies? Is it worth going for the $50 odd Pakula lures? How far out would i need to go to hook into a marlin generally?? My 2 trolling rods re 15 kg numbers one is a shimano backbone on that rod i have a Shimano Tyrnos 20 spooled with 30lb IGFA Mono the other rod is an older Abu Garia with a Slightly smaller somewhat vintage Penn spooled with the same 30lb IGFA Mono So what do you reckon?? Any thoughts and advice would be helpfull! Cheers, Mat
  9. Anyone got pictures??? Just found some pictures!!!!
  10. They Taste basically the same as Snapper..
  11. Hey all, Went on Charter. On our way out past browns mountain we stoped for a jig over 12 mile, the leatehrjackets were thick! 4 out of 5 of us lost jigs on our first drop, however unusually one of the boys hauled in a Baracouta... Then that was it.. we set the outriggers with skirts and trawlled all the way out past browns... We couldnt believe how calm the ocean was and the lack of bird and marine life apart from a small pod of pilot wales... After trawling around for the pest part of 4 hours, we spotted a bosun bird hovering over what looked like a school of bait... We quickly spun the boat around to check it out, and it turned out to be a school of 6-8kg Yellow Fin Tuna. This resulted in the most Kaos ive seen on a boat in a long time!... lol It ended up being a Quad hook up. other than that we trolled around for the next 4 or so hours resulting in two baby friggate macrells which we decided to tow for about an hour around browns withoust as much of a strike....
  12. Oh man, I Only dream of catching that many kings... lol Well done! Im Sorry but it begs the Question what did you do with all the Fish?? It would be morally wrong to catch all of that fish and not eat them... I Mean, 1 70cm king has a LOT of Juicy white flesh.... thehehehe I Will PM you my address and send you express post label.... lol hint hint
  13. Let me just say that GLENBAWN is a Joke, about 6 boats attended, with about 3 fish caught over 4 days..... We used live yabbies, Hardbodys Feral Cats, and stuckys lures in red and black as well as live worms. We trolled for hours wasting a solid 40bucks fuel.... Now I remember why I cant stand freshwater fishing..... Mat
  14. Is there anywhere around north or south head?? Does anyone know how to access the rocks around there??? I Have all the gear Cleats, self Auto self inflating Life jacket... etc I Have often ponderd this while heading out the heads on my boat..... Also how is Lady jane for fishing? I have often seen people fishing off the rocks there..... If im not mistaken just off lady jane there is a reef out neer the navigation markers... Cheers mat
