  1. Bought a second hand boat from a dealer. Within 6 weeks had a major failure. Boat was advertised clearly with new motor and drive. It had 70 hours on it and everything was installed about 6 months before we got it and it has warranty but the failure I am being told is not a warranty job from mercury as drive had water in it. Anyone gone down the path of consumer guarantee and has any words of wisdom as to how and when it applies for boats from a dealer? Everything online is a bit unclear for boats so interested to hear others experiences. Thanks.
  2. Hi everyone I am setting up a new to me boat and looking for a recommendation for rod and reel combos that would suit spanner and kingfish for inshore reefs in Sydney. Dont want to overspend as I’ll need to buy a few of them but open to any ideas! What are others using?
  3. How far upstream from the ferry can you get in Berowra creek? Looks pretty shallow with some tidal areas on Google earth but interested to hear from others. Cheers.
  4. Nice catch and great for the big smiles as a reward. Is it safe to eat muddies up in the George's?

    Muddy

Nice catch.... How did you catch it trap, net or weeding through the banks? And excuse the ignorance but though you couldn't eat them out of the Georges?
  6. Was in the bay late last night and very quiet then to. Water felt a bit warmer than last week but been quiet both weekends.
  7. Thanks everyone, understand if they want it they'll get it. The intention is to slow them down more than anything. Will take a look at the mushroom bolt seems like a better idea. Unfortunately cant weld it as the motor comes on and off regularly for transport. Cheers everyone.

  15. Hey riaders, I have been a long time reader and fish the bay reguraly so always reading the bay reports. So its my time to give back!!! End of June I was in Cairns and convinced the family that two days fishing was a must. Don't ask how I pulled this off but I managed to get a half day private charter as a feeler and then a full day private charter to top of our trip. So first charter was around Trinity inlet and the harbour at Cairns, the company we went with allowed us to go crabbing as well at our request. So of early at 7am, we caught some live bait but due to the super moon the prawns had moved on so we went for some fish instead. After netting some live bait we dropped of the crab pots around 8am and move to a few locations dropping livies. We got lots of hits but not many takes, my theory is with the super moon and high tides the water was dirty and the fish where a bit timid. It got to 11.30 and bang one rod bent over my little mate was onto a solid trevally!!!! Interesting fact the guide wanted to use it for bait for something bigger but I managed to wrangle it from him to put on the table.... So it was nearing close time of the first charter and although the fishing was slow the scenery was just epic fishing in the rain forest so it was certainly an extreme unreal trip! We checked the pots on the way back and there where some nice crabs in the pots but only females and one undersize male so had to go back. So first charter over and speaking to the guide he decided on a day the following week to hit another spot for the full day charter where the queenies where coming on the bite. So 6.30 am in the morning the following week the guide picked us all up in his boat and we drove for about an hour out of Cairns dropped the boat in the water and went chasing some live bait. After about a half hour we where chock full of sardines and chucked out some baits and sat back to a coffee ready in wait. After a short while bang the rod went over and we where into our first fish a wolf herring!!! The fish put up a good fight but came over pretty easily, we made sure not grab this one to quickly due its name "wolf" you can see why! The guide was insistent on keeping it for reef bait so we obliged as I didn't want to mess it with it to much lol ! So wolf herring over the rack and stocked for bait we continued pulling in fish over the day in total we got one trevally, a whiting and three queen fish going 65cm, 67cm and a decent 75cm's as you can see below - The 75cm Queen Fish (Biggest Of The Day) - Days Haul After Giving One Queen Fish To The Skipper - So all in all, we averaged about a fish every 2 hours on the full day charter a fish every hour would even be hotter fishing but you get that and the scenery + location fishing really became a second part to the over all journey!! Planning on getting back up there again but will take my own boat this time and have a crack on our own! Planning on doing a 4wd trip up to the tip with the boat stopping along the way so should be epic!
  16. Nice catch as usual mate.... Can you let us know the lures you are using and colours? Also what technique do you use for squiding that gets them going so well?
  17. Nice catch! Same question what depth are you fishing in and what size jig head are using if you don't mind me asking? I was in the yak on the weekend for a doughnut as I am currently between boats!
  18. Cheers for video guys, only started fishing Botany in the last 6 months and your videos are inspiring me to move out of Towra drifting for flatty to chase something bigger. If you don't mind me asking what down rigger are you using? And the kings when do they usually come on and when there not on what do you chase then? I have noticed its only really hotted up for the kings over the last couple of months of reports from you guys especially so interested in the patterns of the Bay and what's on and when? Cheers again for the video an absolute cracker!!!
  19. We where in the bay, 6 fish in two hours 9am till 11am with plastics.... Two keepers, one nice flounder and a flathead we where drifting around towra. What where you catching the trevs on?
  20. What sort of line, hook and sinker rig where you using to get that deep? And if you don't mind me asking where you jigging or just dropping? Cheers!
  21. Hi all, heading up to myall lakes and was wondering if anyone can recommend any fishing spots up there? Would like to chase some flatties or bream but reading some posts seems the lake is bit slow? Thanks!
  22. Well, held of on going out on saturday as the weather was crap but decided no matter what I was going out on sunday as the conditions looked good. Headed out early got to the ramp about 5.30 just on first light, dropped the boat in and head up towards towra drifting. Now my boat is a nice little boat but I am a fairly green skipper and like to pace myself so have not really ventured across the bay to Yarra and Trev Alley but the conditions where good and the boat was running well and I had a spare jerry can of fuel so I though bugger its now or never. So after a quick drift at Towra with nothing to show I jetted across to Yarra Bay to be met with a crapload of boats, fished for a while but got no interest and the waves on the point where not breaking but quite high so though it better to cross back over the side. About half way the motor started acting up, crap I thought maybe I am out of fuel!!! Checked the tank and I still had fuel, got 3/4 of the way back and she died completed sputtering a horrible death. Composing myself I pulled the cowling off had a look over everything and checked the fuel bulb. I noticed a little bit of fuel was draining out of the hose where it connects the engine, I tightened this re attached it and purged the fuel line and added as much fuel in the jerry can. Started her up and after a few turns bang she fired into life so I made a beeline for the shoreline but she was running great so we stopped and had another drift and I made a few more runs in the boat and did a few more drifts over different areas. Not much enquiries and a few baby snapper came aboard but nothing fantastic, then at about 9.30ish the wife lands a 50cm flathead. I have to do the fish handling as she refuses to touch them so I was busy sorting that out and then hear her screaming she was on again and up comes a nice 40cm trevally. So I put the flatty in the esky and came to the rescue for the trevally, got it off the line and was doing my thing and up comes another. I though bugger this got to get my line in so quickly got my line in and within a few minutes I managed my only fish for the day another nice trevally. Was good to see some quality fish out of the bay finally, its been a few quite weeks and I was starting to loose my faith in soft plastics. So it was now time to head home, we where getting close to the bridge and she sputterd, coughed and died. We grabbed the oars and start paddling trying to get to the sailing club wharf but the current was to strong. Some one in a tinnie noticed we where stuck and towed us in, whoever you are THANKS!!!!! Got out of the boat and did a nice lengthy walk with fuel tank in hand as punishment for running out of fuel in the blistering sun .... Made it back and overall enjoyed every minute of the day ... Note: All fish where caught on a 1/4 Jighead with a size 1 hook and a variety plastics such as atomic tomato wriggler.
  23. Anyone heading out to Botany over the weekend and if so what day are you heading out? Was planning 4am tomorrow but the rain does not look like its going to hold up until 12ish. Was thinking of postponing to Sunday but the wind looks like its due to kick up on Sunday. Must go fishing on the weekend or will have a restless week!!! What's everyone else doing? http://wind.willyweather.com.au/nsw/sydney/botany-bay.html
  24. Nice work mate, what size hook and jighead where you using? Bream and whiting where supposed to be hard to catch on plastics but I have found over the last few weeks they have been wolfing them down without a second thought. Not sure if it is something in the water?
