After at least a 10 year hiatus from casting lures in to the surf (boats and kayaks are just far too attractive these days), I found myself walking a beach early morning, with rod in hand, a simple metal slice, looking for a decent gutter, just south of Sussex Inlet.
I found a cracker of a hole, and an hour of casting, with a fast retrieve such that the lure skipped along the surface, resulted in a dozen visual strikes, half that hooked up, and 4 landed. Biggest a smidge over 50cm.
great fun, and the smoker is being prepped as we speak.
