  1. Ha ha!! Lets hope so!! Let's hope Scratchie picks his game up so you don't have to beat him again! Good luck!!!!
  2. Any reports of Tuna in PS yet? Headed there next week! Thanks! AG
  3. Why not? If there were any eggs the salt would kill them anyway? I recon snapper would love carp!! They use them for fertilizer here but in Eastern/Central Europe they eat them and they are a prized fish on the table. Need to be out of rivers though or they are muddy tasting. I have eaten plenty of carp in Serbia, it's bloody good if done properly and in London lots of fishmongers have carp on display for the Polish, Serbs etc. They are also a prized catch and release fish in UK.
  4. Try a wiliamson jet popper, a maria loaded stick bait or a 9in slug go or slapstix. If they fail....... SEMTEX ;0)
  5. Really? I love Sashimi but always just use stripeys and mack's i catch for bait? Will try next time but they are full of blood non?
  6. The French love em! but just the legs....
  7. Had an early start yesterday 5.30 and grabbed a couple of live calamari hoping to get a king or two out at long reef, after a couple of hours bobbing about in perfect conditions I had no hits & decided to go do a bit of a drift on my way back in to the harbour. Just a red rock cod before a massive Mako came right up to the boat and nudged my burley pot before zooming off in to the distance!!! It was a bit unnerving as I was on my own so decided to head in to the artificial reef, had the live squid out for about ten minutes when the terez had a nice bend in it, thinking it was a nice king I leant in to the fish only for it to take off like a rocket!!!! then I thought wahoo or a spaniard!!!!! three seconds later an exocet missile launched 20 feet out of the water twice....It was another Mako!!! One of the best fights I have ever had, it was pinned perfectly in the corner of the jaw with the 7/0 black magic circle, I was definitely not going to try to get it onboard so decided to keep playing it until the 60lb fluoro gave up, ten minutes in and it did. Managed to get some video and a few shots but don't know how to upload vid. Amazing to see these creatures so close to the shore but a bit of a warning to any open ocean swimmers, the first one i saw must have been 10+ft and the one I caught was 7-8ft.
  8. Sure mate, I think the longer slug-go's/slap stix have a better action which helps to get the fish excited :0) We hooked them all old yeller.
  9. I have a 2010 DF 50, checked the oil when I got home and it was a quarter full, so no dramas. have someone coming to service it this week. great engines.
  10. Was up early and hit the water at 545am. Plan was to head out to troll some skirts in the hope of a Dolly on the way to long reef but had the oil light flashing on my dash! Gutted. Figured Suzuki must make allowances for an early warning system but decided to stay in the harbour just in case. tried a few spots for squid but only managed one small cuttlefish which was ceremoniously demolished by leather jackets when dropped at a marker. Grrrrr! Decided to have a flick at the markers with some 9in Slug go's and my mate Max got hit straight away but the 40lb fluoro wasn't strong enough and he got snapped off!! It was a big king maybe a metre plus. Second hit and the fish Stripped the plastic from the jig head! Third hit and the hook pulled!! Fourth and we managed to boat a fat 73cm king!!! Perfect conditions and lots of kings sounding at the marker buoys but they would have been easier with live baits. Also saw a seal pup and some dolphins. The pup had teeth marks all the way around his body but was fine. Must have escaped a GW attack
  11. Was out yesterday arvo, South head was like a jaccuzzi of Salmon, literally football fields of em! managed a few but very hard to catch. Someone needs to invent a transparent eye lure!!!! It's going to be an awesome summer!!!!
  12. Given, but you were only using light gear. I've lost some big fish on a trip overseas due to their hooks being made of tinfoil. I didn't have any others with me and there are no tackle shops in the Solomons. Apparently indestructible lure bodies, but what about the fkn hooks maaaaan!!!
  13. Cracking fish man, She's a brute!!! Why don't Halco put decent hooks on their lures? Aussie company should make lures able to handle big Aussie fish??? Craziness.
  14. Thanks W4z, not going till after the season opens :0)
  15. Cheers Jamie, Much appreciated!
  16. Hi there, I was hoping someone could answer a few questions about the cox’s river campsite? Can we drive a 4wd in to the campsite or is it forbidden? Also, from the campsite should we head up river or down? We will be spinning with small Rapalas/plastics and I would also like to try my hand at fly fishing if the river allows for it up there? Really appreciate your knowledge.
  17. Pretty shocking that these companies get away with this kind of ecological disaster. What are they doing to fix what they have done? If it was an oil spill they would be forced to clean it up, seems to be a case of out of sight out of mind. Makes me quite happy I don't catch too many fish!
  18. Saw this article today. Despite multi-lingual warnings, anglers are consuming toxic fish caught west of the Harbour Bridge, experts fear After 280 hours monitoring 570 locations on Sydney Harbour, the science is in. Anglers are fishing with gusto west of the Harbour Bridge and many are keeping and cooking the catch with long-term deleterious effects, experts fear. Dr Luke Hedge from the Sydney Institute of Marine Science told the ABC that a detailed study of how Sydney residents use the harbour has revealed an alarming find. Hedge looked into where Sydneysiders “drive their boats, where they fish, where they drop their anchors, how many people go to the beach — all these things that make Sydney such a unique place.” His fieldwork revealed up to 20 boatloads of anglers were fishing Lane Cove River, around Cockatoo Island, with many more casting a line from wharves west of the Harbour Bridge like those at Woolwich, Pyrmont and around Drummoyne. There is nothing illegal about fishing west of the Harbour Bridge, and some of the best sportsfishing in the whole of harbour exists in the polluted Parramatta and Lane Cove rivers, where the deep holes are hotspots for big jewfish. But the concern is that, despite warnings and signage to the contrary, anglers are catching, keeping and consuming fish likely to have dangerously high levels of dioxins, which are a known carcinogen. Dioxin and heavy-metal levels from industrial pollution have accumulated in the sediments in the muddy bays west of the Harbour Bridge. Constant ferry services creating a groundswell that erodes the banks and stirs up the toxic sludge. Fish tissue sampled in areas west of the bridge such as Homebush Bay exceeded health standards. As a result, commercial fishing was been banned in Sydney Harbour in 2006. Experts are now calling for further testing. Many if not most of the anglers keeping fish to consume west of the Harbour Bridge are new to Australia or have English as a second language. Recreational fishing in the Harbour has not been banned, but anglers are urged to follow dietary advice on the consumption of seafood from the waterway. Anglers should practise catch and release wet of the Harbour Bridge. Based on advice from an expert panel, the Government recommends that: << No fish or crustaceans caught west of the Sydney Harbour Bridge should be eaten. You should release your catch. << For fish caught east of the Sydney Harbour Bridge generally no more than 150 grams per month should be consumed. << Testing of popular species has allowed for more accurate dietary advice. The table above provides advice on the maximum consumption of a single species. The full Sydney Harbour usage study will be released later this year. Hopefully, it's not a precursor to fishing bans and identifying areas to set aside for marine-park usage.
  19. I think you should only rinse with fresh water, apparently the detergents or solvents like Marine lubricants can react with the magnetic oils?!
  20. Yeah I thought that Magseal actually waterproofed the reel. I was wrong!! Accidentally dunked my caldia 3050PESH and had to pay 130 bux to fix it, I think it does protect the bearings and also makes the reel smoother as there is no friction from rubber seals. The only truly fully mag sealed (waterproofed) reel they make at the moment is the new flagship 2014 Saltiga 5500H and 8000H Expedition, Alan hawk has said in a recent review that they are the best spinning reel ever produced, even better than the 08 Stella! I have just sold a load of my gear that I don't use so I could buy one!!!! Arrives Monday.....
  21. Nice report! I was out this arvo, caught a few Salmon just inside the lighthouse on south head and then headed out trolling two skirts, loads of gannets about but they were shallow diving (at a shallow angle?) and not that frequently, whatever they were feeding on must have been small and right on the surface. There were also loads of gannets and some massive albatross sat down around 3k off the heads. Was hoping to hook a tuna, saw lots of activity including about ten whales, it almost glassed out at one point, a really magic afternoon. Will be out at first light tomorrow!!! fingers crossed will be posting a pic or two!! point 7 m swell and light winds!!! Tight lines
  22. The weed grows all around the edges of the rose bay floating wharf at the boat ramp
  23. We were fishing several KM's off Malolo Lai Lai Island, near Castaway Island of Tom Hanks fame. Right out past the reef.
