They are a weird lookin fish .i believe its. A lizard fish.

Thats interesting. Ive often thought that, even though i have never caught a jew from the beach i recken they would opportunistically eat anything fresh washing around the gutters!

Just wanted to know what the length and weight for a kingfish would be for each catergory: rats, bandits and hoods?

I was lucky enough to get out with a mate today to chase dollies around the fads. On the way back we decided to slow troll some skirts to see if we could tempt some action. We are novices at this game but always hopeful. We had our first strike on the shorter line , had a fight for about 5 seconds and the line went slack. On retrieval of the lure we realised we had hooked something of a half decent size as unfortunatly we hooked the fishes eyeball. We feel bad that this has caused permanent injury to the fish but are wondering what it could have been? A dollie? A marlin? I have posted a pic of the fish eye and would appreciate any feedback as to the species from which this comes. Thanks.

I think that trawler fishing boat that i see off the northern beaches may have something to do with it. Its been there alot .

All my baits are fresh / live . Maybe i should just up the size. I havnt tried soft plastics but i dont see why they wouldnt work. I guess i just have to keep putting the time in. Cheers.

Ive been very consistant in catching jewfish in sydney harbour but my problem is they are all undersize. My quistion is , would the larger models frequent the same places as the small ones.?

I think they are just concentrating on breeding not feeding.
