  1. Hi all, I just noticed this thread was hoping to remind everyone to contact the council via email and voice their disapproval of being locked out - I have contacted all of the councilors and voiced a polite opinion. I also wrote a piece on it here http://www.fishingworld.com.au/news/anger-over-boat-ramp-closure Bayview park has at least 42 dedicated boat and trailer spots, Taplin Park has less than half of that amount that are dedicated to boats only with other spots available for use by cars Mon-Fri which would be a nightmare during holidays. Even if you don't use Bayview Park it would be most appreciated if you voice an opinion to council - the added pressure on adjacent boat ramps would likely be significant and a blanket closure of Bayview Park unfairly disadvantages all of the responsible boat owners out there that use the facility. Council contacts to email were noted above, these are the key people in the first instance Ms Pauline Webb ( pauline.webb@canadabaycouncil.nsw.gov.au) Mr JohnOsland (council@canadabay.nsw.gov.au) Mayor Angelo Tsirekas (angelo.tsirekas@canadabay.nsw.gov.au) Cheers, Sami.
  2. I'm with you mate, it has been great to fish with different people and explore a few new spots. Pretty random how we bumped into each other and were fishing shortly after - love it! Your fish was a cracker though, put the other fish to shame! I've been on a black fishing binge of late trying to figure out where the suckers are hiding and what they're feeding on - really good fun.

had a lengthy reply that was accidentally deleted. in short - they're great and i've had one for 2 years without incident. fitted an original starter to mine also which helps the old man when he's out - the starter is a handy good option but quite expensive for an original. is the one in the pics oil injected ? mine has the words oil injection or something similar on it. mine also came with a rectifier/charging circuit. wouldn't hesitate to buy another. cheers, sami
  4. could be a number of things. the way you rig the circles, leader size and length, hook pattern, size of bait relative to hook, how the bait is bridled etc 4-5 secs is a little on the short side and 1-2kg is a bit heavy for a free swimming meal. to answer your question though, i've only seen and used enough tension to prevent an overrun on the take and thats usually freespool with the clicker on or very light drag. as dan mentioned, once you've been bit, i would wait for time X ( 5sec < X < 5min) then slowly lift the lever to strike and pass the rod to someone that fancies a little winding practice.

interested to hear more about the leader snapping - wasn't the long line knot was it ? was there a bur around the eye of the hook ? congrats again mate - long time coming.
  6. g'day mate, do you guys anchor up when shark fishing? might have done better drifting with the slick.
  7. thanks for the suggestions guys. tried bias already. also tried a couple of o-rings that i picked up from autopro which didn't really work out either.
  8. yeah, thing is i'd rather pay 50c for replacement washers than $15 for replacement bungs. tried a little rubber o-ring without luck, someone has to supply those damn flat rubber washers.
  9. anyone know where to get some replacement washers for a set of bungs ? the bungs are those larger models, from memory the washer needed to have an outer diam. of 30mm and an inner diam of 28mm. thanks, sami
  10. no mate, we were north of broken bay in a plate centre con.
  11. Headed out wide yest looking for a late season marlin, yellowfin or anything else really. Apart from a blind strike from an unknown speedster the action was pretty slow unfortunately. Managed to stumble upon a huge log floating just inside the shelf and first troll past saw a triple hookup on dollies. Caught a few trolling then caught a few more on livieys and pillies. The fun really started though when the light gear came out, managed to jig about half a dozen on 2 and 3in stick baits, could see them zipping around and smacking lures. Kept a few for the table and let most of them go. All pretty small though, biggest would have been close to 3kg, good fun on the light stuff - better than bream! Sami

actually with that solid build and high gear ratio, they'd probably make decent 8 and 10kg game reels

i've been eyeing them off also - i'd be intertested to see what market they fit into. would have thought they'd bring out a tougher TLD to handle braided lines but bottom dropping in 100+ fathoms would be annoying with that gearing and i can't see them replacing the TLD 2 speeds for gamefishing. haven't quite figured out why a solidly built trolling reel would have a such a high gear ratio.
  14. g'day mate, what make is that little fat orange squid jig with the big eye ? sami
  15. good advice mate. have tried it in the past but i found that grease seems to keep thinning out with use (possibly because the oil beraks it down, could be the oil/grease combo i was using). thanks, sami
