  1. Hi, I'm hoping a kind Fishraider has kept the rear side of their new Green Safety label... and wouldnt mind taking a photo of it and posting here. I'm looking at a boat which is pre 2006 (No builders plate) and does not currently have a Safety label. I would like to see the capacity table for boats over 6m with no flybridge. thanks in advance for possibly saving me a trip to the RMS... (You'd think you could find this sort of thing on their website... nope) regards Jeff
  2. Got out there nice and early with a ton of fresh squid. Setup by 6am, and knew the first hour would be slow around high tide. But didn't expect it to stay quiet till 10.30.. Plenty of other boats there over the hours, and no one caught a thing... Trolled squid and lures through middle harbour moorings on the way back to Roseville for also nought.. Hope it's better next week..
  3. Anyone use the Roseville Ramp over the long weekend? We were going to go out, but I was too wary to try it without hearing others feedback.....
  4. Looks exactly the same as it did the other day....
  5. +1 on that. Two pontoons, one on either side would have been great..
  6. Interesting. I think they may have gone 'off' a little early with some of those comments... As mentioned in my post, there does seem to be a pontoon being built on the north side of the ramp, very similar to the old one, and possibly with better access. I guess we have to wait and see before passing judgement. I'm also not sure they are laying into the right people. Is Warringah council responsible for this ramp? I thought it would be Maritime on behalf of NPWS. Jeff
  7. Hi all, I just took some time during lunch to check out the ramp. I can report that it still is not folly completed, and the guys there told me another 'week or so'. All three lanes are open though. See pics. Chatting with another spectator down there and we came to these conclusions: Going from 4 ramps down to 3 is a very bad idea. This place could barely cope with 4 lanes in summer. The pontoon inserted where lane 3 was, will (at least initially) be 'interesting'. At best, it could help move boats through faster, but that would rely on people launching then tying up as far out as possible, otherwise, they will block the lane, especially at low tide. The pontoon should be 20m longer in our opinion. We dont know whats happening on the left (north) side of the ramp yet, but best guess is that there is going to be a new steel walkway out to a pontoon for tieup, in about the same place as before. The upgrade to the ramp itself is excellent, good grippy concrete and deep - even at low tide. Parking - the toilet block will result in the loss of around 10-15 car spots. I'm actually ok with that, because I have been 'caught short' down there, so can see the advantages. It will mean less parking which wont make people happy at 10am Sunday in December! And there is no way the toilet block will be ready in 'a week or so' ! Cheers Fryboy
  8. I think the point has been missed here...... What the heck were you doing outside on Monday?? If I remember, it was about 30knots southerly and swells to the eyeballs!
  9. thats one lucky man to have those experienced and brave guys around... I got a good takeaway from the article - the improvised harness. Tie a jacket around the disabled fisherman's chest and then attach a rope to pull him out. Would never of thought of that, but its a great idea....
  10. Hey mate, Maybe Huey from Huetts has a simple answer - as he is the Etec specialist, but in my experience its not a question you can answer easily. It comes down to a bit of trial and error due to the specific nature of your boat and how many people and gear its carrying. It also depends on the material (stainless vs aluminium) and whether you want 3 or 4 blades. What I can say from experience is that your Etec should be putting out 5500-6000rpm at WOT with a 'normal' load. 'Normal' being the usual number of crew and gear. If its not getting that then you are probably swinging too big a prop (and the engine is struggling to cope) , and if its getting more then it may be too small (and you are overreving the engine obviously). One thing I remember everyone telling me is that you should try to ensure your motor is fixed at the right height before looking into the prop performance. I've heard that incorrectly mounted motors can make for the biggest performance issues. My understanding is that the cavitation plate (just above the prop) should be skimming the water at WOT. If its not, then you need to raise or lower the motor mounting before you look at props. Once you are set there, then you can start playing around with props. For comparison, I have a 5.3m Quintrex freedom sport - My F115 came with a 15 x 17 inch pitch 3 blade stainless, and I was only getting about 5300 rpm at WOT. I wanted a 4 blade, because I was told that you get better fuel economy and torque at low speeds, but sacrifice top end speed (which isnt an issue for me, I'm Mr McGoo on the water). I also chose stainless because I was told that performance is better (and it looks better!). I was advised to get a 4 blade 13.25 x 15 , which I must admit I thought sounded ridiculous - but the extra blade adds a lot of drag, so it does make sense. The advice I got was spot on, and I now get 6000rpm on the knocker at WOT. I hope thats at least an interesting read. Best thing though would be to get some professional advice from Huey, once you know what your RPM at WOT is, and you are sure the motor is mounted right. regards Fryboy
  11. thanks for the report and congrats on your PB!
