  1. Hi Rick, what's happened to all the great squid reports you were posting in the past? They couldn't have all disappeared.
  2. Great bag of whiting. So all the fish have moved south. I have tried Terrigal beach the last 2 weeks and not a sign of whiting using live nippers. Very strange.
  3. Great catch of whiting, size and numbers, interesting comment by Rickmarlin. May have to change my hooks from black to red.
  4. Nice fish mate. Do they still let you fish off that wharf, with all the ferries coming and going?
  5. Well done on getting a few fish for a feed. Seems the yak is starting to produce some decent fish outings and I'm sure it will only keep getting better. Now you can actually get out and find the fish and not have to wait for the fish to find you. Plus some exercise thrown in for good measure. Win, win all around.
  6. Hi, nice catch. Whiting & octopus, 2 of my 3 most wanted species, the other being calamari. Have you ever tried a meat tenderizer, wood or metal, works a treat for me. Just gently beat the occy or calamari with it for about 5 min. on a cutting board. Then cook as you like. Cheers.
  7. Nice fish Sarg. Shame about the weather.
  8. Nice catch for a quiet morning. I'd be very happy with that. Have you ever gone home with nothing? Like me. Well done.
  9. Pretty quite around the harbour at the moment, for me anyway. I was at Clifton on Tuesday morning trying for whiting, plenty around but weren't interested in the live beachworms. Ended up catching 1 around 30 cm & that was it. Old fellow near the end of the wharf was catching the odd keeper bream & blackfish using unweighted bread for bait & burly. Tried a couple of spots around Balmoral this morning for 2 stingrays & 1 decent trevally off the wharf but no whiting. Thing I have noticed the last few times I've fished around the harbour there has been no yellowtail around, east & north sides. I think that's one reason for the lack of fish. When they arrive maybe things will get better. Good luck to all of us next time we're out.
  10. All round CHAMPION. Congratulations.
  11. Nice to see you finally got some action Sgt. I always read your entertaining reports as they often reflect on my recent efforts, over the last couple of years. Have been hoping to bump into you some day to share some of our misfortunate fishing outings. Just missed you yesterday morning as I was tossing up going to Clifton as i have had some great sessions with Whiting from the beach and off the northern walkway but for some reason the last 2 years have been very lean pickings, so ended up at Balmoral Wharf instead. Using live beach worms I caught a keeper whiting on the first cast, good start. Then nothing for the next 45 min. Changed position off to the beach for about 30 min. until the swimmers and boats put an end to that. Should have known better, fishing at Balmoral on a Saturday morning is a no no. I then went to the Spit, which has also been quiet lately, but at least I got away from the crowds but the Marina with the all the moored boats seems to be spreading more every time I go there. Whiting again was the target but again they were not around. All was not lost as I ended up getting 2 bream at 28cm and 1 at 39cm in about an hour. Same as you, had to move on just before 9am to avoid parking fees. Still have a couple of worms left so I may go and soak them down at Brighton this morning, closer to home. Cheers all.
  12. Wow great catch, you must have taken a big chunk out of the resident population of blackies. I see them all the time at that wharf but have never seen anyone target them, including myself. Bet you had a lot of ooo's & aaa's from the tourists off the ferries. Well done.
  13. 45 min. fight on 4 lb line What an amazing catch & incredible patience. Well done. I would have lost it in the first couple of minutes. Would have to be best catch of the month.
  14. Nice catch there Yowie, nothing wrong with a good feed of jackets. Is that in front of the Marine Rescue base your cleaning the fish? If so, is the wharf on the side still there? Last year i was down there & it looked like it was about to collapse. A few years back used to get some great squid there a night, when the light hadn't been smashed. Cheers.
  15. Gee's that could have been me writing that report. My last few weak attempts, also at Watsons Bay Wharf & the rocks at La Peruse, have resulted in Zilch. No doubt we'll be back & hopefully next time, BANG, we'll be on. Just got to land it now.
  16. Great result on some nice fish, especially those whiting. You really have the hacking sussed out.
  17. Very nice fish, I fished off Balmoral wharf about 2 weeks back and caught 2 whiting at 47cm & 37cm using Tube Worms. I mostly target whiting but have found the last couple of years the big schools haven't been around. You get a few here and there but not in any quantities. Has anyone else noticed this, or is it just me? Good fishing All
  18. Nice fish your team caught. I had the same happen to me with a nice size kingfish at Balmoral last week. I was using live yellowtail & yellowtail fillets, not a touch for 2 hours. As I was packing up to leave, around 9am, I decided to feed the yellowtail some leftover bread and sure enough the kingy shot out from under the wharf & proceeded to devour the bread. Threw in more bread and floated a yellowtail fillet down amongst the bread but he & dozens of yellowtail had eyes only for the bread, moulded some bread onto a hook, no interest. I left the wharf thinking, there's always next time.
  19. Very well done, some nice feeds there & all in mid afternoon, great stuff.
  20. Great report, had everything, fantastic fish & squid, well done. Hope to read more soon.
  21. Thanks Hawkesbass, they don't come too often for me. Thanks Groper, your last report is what motivated me, that really was a great catch you had. Thanks Jewdreamer, yes squid for dinner but I don't think you should come cause you might take it & use it whole to get a jewfish
  22. With all the reports of squid lately I thought i'd give it a go down at La Perouse this morning & caught 2 squid, 1 smallish & 1 MONSTER, that went 410mm hood & weighed 1.85Kg. Personal best. I would like to enter it for catch of the month, if it qualifies. Hope the photo comes up.
  23. Nice whiting, big toads tend to do that as well.
  24. Your right about the bream & whiting being quiet. I'm only landbased but all the spots that were producing nice fish, same time last year. Middle harbour, north habour & all around botany bay are doing nothing for me at the moment. Live worms are hard to get lately, not that the live ones were catching any, so have been trying dried ones to no avail. Just 2 keeper bream & 1 decent whiting in the last 5 outings, but i'll keep tring. Keep the reports coming as it's always good hear others are getting some.
  25. The ramp itself looks finished but there is still a lot of construction going on around it and surrounding area. The only part you can get to at the moment is the ferry wharf & the restuarant, every thing else seems to be blocked off. Looks to me it will be out of action all winter & most of the spring.
