  1. Hi Have used banister marine at warners bay to raise the transom on the baron sportsman. Top job and 18 months still looks great Regards Bob
  2. Hi Second for Optima, run a D34M in the boat as the staring battery and a D34 yellow top in the car as a second battery. Having said that the house batteries are 10 year old AGMs (2x 55ah) and when I spoke to the supplier a couple of years ago he was surprised to see them still going! I think they are SSB??? Best thing I have done though was fit a blue seas battery switch and m-ACR to look after the batteries whilst I look after the fishing. Regards Bob
  3. Hi Tried to in the beginning but realised that it was a battle I just wasn't going to win. Regards Bob
  4. Hi I just wipe everything over with inox spray at the end of the day and make sure the I keep the terminal contact areas clean. Regards Bob
  5. Hi Sleepydragon Thanks for the response. Had a play witht he dragonfly at the boatshow and it is good but unfortunately it does not have out puts to interface with DSC VHF
  6. Hi all My magellan meridian has died and I need to get get another GPS and was looking at up grading to a 5" chart plotter. Prefer a stand alone unit and need NMEA 0183 so I can connect to my DCS VHF & furuno 620. Went to the boat show (sydney) and got totally confussed. Really liked the Raymarine Dragonfly but it doesnt have any outputs and I hear the boat icon is a bit of an issue. So that leaves me with the following: 1. Lowrance Elite-5m Colour GPS Chartplotter Includes Navionics XL9 Gold Australia-Wide Chart $678 (Bias) 2. GME GPLOT Chartplotter with Internal GPS antenna & Free CMAP MAX Australia Wide $699 (whitworths) or 3. Garmin GPSMAP 556 Colour Chartplotter has BlueChart preloaded with ALL Australia & New Zealand coastal waters $699 Has anyone got these? likes/dislikes and would you buy the same again. thanks Bob
  7. Hi Guys Heuy your right it is a 1980. The coils and powerpack are sierra. Well I took a breath and had another look. Removed the kill wire from the new powerpack and bingo spark on both banks. Seams that the left powerpack (the one I was geting spark on) was causing the other powerpack to shut down. Put the right powerpack back on along with the new powerpack and alls good. Took it up to windsor for a run and it started and ran ok but after about 20 minutes at full throttle (38knots) the over temp alarm came on (first time since Ive had the Baron that Ive ever heard it) idled back and checked telltale which was good and after a couple of minutes alarm went off. Headed back to ramp at 4000rpm and no alarm. Cant remember running it at WOT for that long so might not even be related. thanks Bob
  8. Hi guys Hoping someone can point me in the right direction as I am now losing my mind with my '81 Evinrude 150hp (150TRL CSF). Took it out a couple of months ago started ok but ran like a dog, no power. Went back home and found RH bank not firing. Swapped over power packs & fault transferred so put in a new power pack on RH bank (also repaced the 3 coils on the rh bank). Engine now starts ok but as soon as I take it above idle either using the throttle lever or putting it into gear the RH bank cuts out. (Idle in gear still have spark). The only other thing that I have replaced on this engine (beside plugs and water pumps)is the trigger base and HT leads about 18 mths ago and the motor was running fine for the 12 mths after that. What am I missing??? Thanks Bob
